Diet = Periodic Severe Stomach Stabbing Pain ??

My boyfriend has been suffering from a severe stabbing pain in his right side of his stomach for as long as i've been going out with him. Normally starts in the early hours of the morning. A hotwater bottle seems to relieve him a little and generally when he gets up it subsides after half an hour. The odd "attack" it niggles away for a few hours.

We used to think it was when he stayed in my house that the bed was hurting his hip, but i moved house a month ago and he's still is getting it. He also gets it at home in his own house now too- it's at least twice a week these days as opposed to occasionally.

I'm now beginning to think its what he eats is triggering it when he's digesting ? This weekend he stayed friday & saturday night, and he was in bits saturday & this morning going out working. I'm wondering is it what he eats- if he has a rich meal- sauces , desert with cream etc and it's his intestine? we'd home made shepards pie, apple crumble with custard & cream friday, and last night we got a chinese , no alcohol we don't drink at home (we're active people and it's rare we indulge in these foods) whereas normally i'd make grillled chicken salad, or fish, or salad & something. Thursday he cooked bacon & cabbage, no deserts.

He has been to his doctor, on antibiotics and went for scans in december, an ultrasound to rule out kidney stones and the woman (sonagrapher?) said she can't see anything but would send results to his doctor. That was December, this is march and they still cant put a finger on the pain. He isn't in pain when he goes to go to the Dr. and as he's a man, he puts off appointment "for another day".

I hate seeing( listening) to him squirm in the bed, i don't want to be the bossy girlfriend asking what he ate all day (he's a carpenter and the cliché of the builders breakfast roll), and i'm really worried it's something like Chrons, gastroenteritis, or an ulcer, or some disease ( google is a terrible thing!)

    Thank you .

Aurellia, the fact that the pain is exclusively on the right hand side suggests gallbladder problems. Did the sonographer look at the gallbladder in the last scan? If there are problems, gallstones or chronically irritated lining or both will show up, and then it's a simple keyhole surgery to remove the gallbladder. Course it might not be that at all, but if it's only ever on the right and if it's triggered by rich food, it could be. Good luck with the diagnosis.

She said she couldn't see anything? In and out in 4 mins, it was a friday night at 7.10 pm appointment . He has VHI so think should ask for another appointment? She said she'd write to Dr, and when he rang Dr before Christmas the response was if there was something to tell him he'd get back onto him.
I feel i'm the one pushing him to do something about it, but i really thought this morning what did we do different this weekend that caused it as we hadn't been out and it was the take away so i wondered was it food related

I looked up Gallbladder attacks el27 and yes he is matching the sympthoms so hopefully with a second opinion,

OP please don't consult the internet for a diagnosis. We are completely random people who have no knowledge of your BF's clinical history or expertise to make any judgement even if we did. This is like roaring your medical query on the main street expecting something to come of it.

Get thee to a good specialist, don't accept 'dunno' for an answer, keep trying new specialists.
