my wife has a 2005 audi a4 b7 1.9 tdi and the drivers side electric windows are acting up. basically the windows only go up and down sometimes and it can be very hard to persuad ethem to go up. when you press the button nothing happens and then maybe suddenly they might decide to work. sometimes she cant get them to go up and ends up locking the car and keeping her hand on the remote control to get them to go up. its only the drivers side electrics for both windows. passengers side works perfectly? what could it be. is this a job for my auto-electrician?

Does it go up fine when using the remote? If it does I'd say the switch on the drivers door is faulty, if it doesn't there's a problem with the motor. You should also check there's no obstruction in the path of the glass like excessive moss or dirt that has built up.

Think this is the part here but for a left hand drive car, I'm guessing one here will be less than €100, try either an Audi dealer or maybe GSF Carparts would have it...

May or may not be something you would like to tackle yourself, here's a guide...

If the key fob is working the window perfectly, it is going to be the window switch or the simple wiring between the switch and the control module which I believe is very close to it within the drivers door. My money would be on the switch as they are pretty troublesome on some vw/audi cars specially if they get wet at all. Its worth buying the switch and fitting it anyway. It should be cheap enough. I know a 2 gang drivers door window switch for a skoda octavia is only about €30 for the dealer. I dont know if you have 2 or 4 electric windows but it wont be massive money anyway - Possibly cheaper to replace it than get a dealer to diagnose the problem. It should be a simple diy even if you are not handy at cars.

Hi guys, I have a similar problem. The drivers side window does not move at ALL but the passengers side is fine working from the same switch, there is also a problem with the remote mirrors as they do not work, also the the red lights that highlight switches etc in the interior at night do not work. I have taken the door trim off, bought and fitted a new switch, no joy. The dealer said it maybe the door control unit...which one is this or it maybe the "convenience control system" at the footwell of the passengers side. Apparently these can get damp, tried the carpet (dontwant to take everything out if it aint this) no dampness at all, I have also remove the black harness running from the door to teh car, i cannot see any stripped wires or loose connections...frustrated and getting worse..any ideas please....
