    Whats your opinion on this?
Should the contract go to an irish organ maker?
Should they just use a Casio keyboard and a big set o bass speakers and save thousands?
Should they use a chorus of kids with kazoos and lots of reverb and save even more?
What would a carpenter from Galilee think of this much dosh being spent in a debt ridden country?

And what in the heck is the total cost of the organ if the saving is 30,000!!!!

Oh and in before "Oh look. Another church bashing thread".

€30,000 extra for the Irish company, rip off Ireland alive and well

Head down to Henry street in Dublin and get one cheap. 'last of the cathedral organs there love, only one left...free toblerone with every one bought'

In all fairness to the Bishop in this case, no matter what he does someone will complain. Save money and he's a traitor to Ireland. Use the Irish company and he's wasting money. If it was only a small difference then I'd say keep the business in Ireland, but 30 grand is too big a gap to get all patriotic. Let the Irish company offer a more competitive price and see how the land lies then.

Could he not go back to the Wicklow company first to see if they would match the quote?

I hate having to defend the bishop, but unless the Irish company can be more competitive they shouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell of getting the business. I for one can't blame him for choosing cost over loyalty, especially at 30k

(btw OP LOVE the thread title)

So much wrong here its hard to know where to start but these points jump to mind:
What in the hell is an irish company doing charging 30,000 more than an Italian company? Is the organ made of gold?

What in the hell is a church which admits that it is in decline, needs restructuring and has barely attended churches doing spending what I can only assume is hundreds of thousands on an organ which will be little more than an occasionally played decoration?

What in the hell is a church which reluctantly pays a fraction of its own compo to abuse victims and then has tax money make up the difference doing spending this money?

What in the hell would Jesus think. Genuinely?

Im familiar with Longford and this money could be much better spent on a hundred more worthy and practical causes.

Apparently they had 7 priests as members on the tender panel, only one of them voted for the Italian organ company, none voted for the Irish organ company and six voted for a tender young organs company....

Pipe organ's cost an absolute fortune, a few hundred grand easy. A serous amount of labour and skill goes into them so I can see why the'yre so expensive.

€30,000, while a substantial amount of money, probably represents only a small price differential. If they can afford the Italian one, they can afford the Irish one, and I suspect that it has more to do with people wanting an Italian one.

No money for abuse victims, but bishops are going organ shopping.

I'm sure that's what Jesus would do.
