my neighbour has an 04 transit connect, has it bout 6 months now and nothing but problems, injectors had to be repaired at cost of over €500, then the engine goes so repalcement engine goes, now today the turbo has gone, the van is very low on power and and the turbo whisles loudly, the engine ticks over fine might be lucky and got it stopped before engine was ruined to, so what is the likley problem with turbo could it be taken out and fixed? is it the bearings what that goes in them? and can you buy new bearings or what ever it needs and fix it urself?

Turbo DIY rebuild not a good idea, it needs to be balanced or it will lunch itself very quickly, best left to the experts:

    http://turbo-tech.ie/

They will exchange knackered turbo for recon one and are reasonable.
If you (or the neighbour) are handy with a spanner, you can take it out and replace it yourself, should save some garage bills.
