Rumour has it it will be officially launch March 17th. KA LNB's are now available from eBay etc, best value from onwave, see other threads.

It seems as if TV3 and 3E will not be on it. The best box recommended for Saorsat and 28.2 is already on Sale in Powercity.

It's only intended for those who cannot can Saorview, as with it, you will not get TV3 etc. Also RTE1 etc is going to be broadcast from some sites in the North (using DVB-T2) so get that instead if you can also.

So basically it is possilbe right now, best to wait until the service is fully launched, best not to consider it if you can get Saorview

Basically any HD sat box will work. However this seems to be the only box that currently will show the 7 day SaorSAT guide AND 7 day 28.2 guide. Some other open source/hacked boxes can also do this but none of the normal boxes. The powercity box is sat only, single tuner. No one has done a proper review yet.

Saorsat should be obliged to have TV 3 on board. Is the expense justified for what in effect is 3 channels. Most of the target audience already have tv 3 and won't take too kindly to have to fork out just to see the GAA games in Summer 2013 in stunning HD:(

It's rumoured TV3 won't pay, and RTENL can't give them a free ride. Saorview has 98% population coverage already which covers the legal bit.

Regarding the cost I think it is very minimal. RTENL reckon they have actually saved, due to the fact they are abandoning many smaller transmission sites which would have cost lots more. Many of these sites came about due to politicians campaigning for a few hundred houses etc. Saorsat covers 99.9% of these and more.

It would have been best if Saorsat and Saorview were included in the one price rather than seperate deals.

If Saorsat was launched a year ago with all channels and a compatable twin sat tuner box with 7 day 28.2 guide it might have been a brilliant solution for people leaving Sky.

Hopefully a decent twin tuner combo box will be launched in the future which gives close to sky features.

Hopefully better boxes will appear before October and after October.

Tv3 are always lagging behind on all platforms and managed to avoid tranmission from many of the old Analog sites for yrs...they wont get away with being missing from SAORSAT for 2 long especially when they are taking although it may be a merger 5% of the tv licenses they will have to be present.

Getting the coverage levels that TV3 now have on Saorview which is far in excess of their analogue coverage means that they won't pay at any time for the marginal increase of coverage that Saorsat offers. They are under no legal obligation to prop up an RTE White elephant.

I'm not for one moment defending RTE, but in all fairness they do a hell of a good job when compared to some of the overseas channels. Most definitely bot a white elephant. TV 3 is mostly re-broadcasting ITV, except for the few docu programmes they are obliged to do as a condition of their licence. Otherwise a very white mouse:D.

Half of RTE's content are now taken from either BBC, itv or ch4 or simply make an irish re-run of the same program...only thing good on rte is their excellent news and primetime shows the rest is rubbish.
