Help wanted for a college radio documentary

    Hey all!

As part of the final year of my degree, I am making a radio documentary on Irish football fans. I’m looking to talk to a small group in a relaxed setting, say a city centre pub, and just get them talking about their best memories, opinions on the game in general. The only catch is, I need people who haven’t been to a League of Ireland game before.

I’m not looking to start up the whole barstoolers debate here so I’d ask that people would take that elsewhere. I’m simply looking to get in contact with four people who live in the greater Dublin area and who would be willing to meet with me for a couple of hours at a time convenient to them. I can take individuals from here or you can vouch for you and your mates.

I’d really appreciate any volunteers here guys! PM me if you’re interested or ask if you have any questions.

A suggestion, stick this in the Dublin colleges forum's, I say you will get some people from there, maybe a bit younger than you want though?

I'd try on the main Irish fans forum at www.ybig.ie

I've been to a good few LOI games, so that rules me out. But good luck with it

Cheers dude, it's proving tough finding the right participants at the moment so I may have to go a different direction

It can't be that hard to find a group of lads who've never been to an LoI game.

    Can it?

I'd imagine a HUGE amount of folk posting on here have never been to a LoI game.

Mind me asking why the condition they have never been to a LOI match?

I doubt it. I'd say most have been at least one.

Most people would have gone at some stage, be it as a kid with their family, as a teen with their mates or later in life with college or workmates and then decided it wasn't for them.

Actually yeah, there's always a few lads who post "went once, didn't like the smell of the grass, never going back" when the topic crops up.

It's that perspective that I'm after. Would be looking to take them along to a game, on me of course.

This isn't going well at all! I'm just going to go out to games over the next few weeks and record sounds, talk to people and see if any sort of story develops. May even frequent some Saturday/Sunday amateur games too.

Is there any way of doing it without the whole not been to a LOI game?

There's going to have to be some sort of compromise on that as the whole thing is time sensitive. It's back to the drawing board essentially but I want it to be somewhat focused on the struggle of Irish football against the backdrop of the EPL being saturated in our mainstream culture.

Firhouse against Drogheda or Crumlin against Dundalk today would have been perfect for interviewing people!

Best bet, go to a pub tomorrow about 7pm a bit before Man City are playing Chelsea and you're sure to find some football fans who've never been to a LoI match.
