I see there are a few nice phones on the way this summer, the HTC One X etc - but I'm disappointed with the fairly standard batteries that are in them. My first Android phone was a HTC desire which was utterly horrific, needed to be plugged in all the time. I now have a sensation which is better but still not great - anyone with an iPhone gets significantly better battery life. Why oh why don't these companies but better batteries in - surely they could use it as a marketing angle to attract more customers...

iOS 5 now drains battery a lot faster on iPhones, not much difference between a decent Android handset on gingerbread and iOS 5 devices these days, its the nature of having a smart phone I'm afraid.

i have a DHD and since gingerbread 2.3.5 my battery lasts about 2 days... on froyo it only lasted 10 hours max.

soon we will get icecream sandwich for the DHD... hopefully it will improve battery life.

Me: X10, 2.3, No battery case
Dad: iPhone 4, iOS 5, Battery case.

If you manage whats draining power correctly(eg turn off gps most of the time) then you should get a day per charge, which is the norm now, when you sleep your phone charges, simple.

I'm getting 2 days out of the Galaxy Nexus with plenty of twitter and web browsing out of it.

I had a modded HTC Desire and was getting nearly 2 days from that too.

The issue is HTC and their SENSE Android overlay.
Its turned into a big batttery and resource hog and HTC have admitted as much recently and are going back to simplify and reduce it features once again.

GPS has little or no effect on battery - it only activates when an app needs it.

True. I'm running an ICS ROM without Sense on my Sensation and get 2 days with normal use and have 40% left at night with heavy use.

Yes, this is true, but many apps now trigger it. Like many I'm a facebook addict, and guess what, it likes to know your location.

How are you managing that? Browsing uses about 2% of battery life every 3 minutes, even with screen brightness turned down.

I've certainly noticed that Chrome is an awful battery hog.

The battery life on my Sensation is considerably better on an ICS ROM than it was on stock GB. Usually 50% battery remaining by late evening after a good deal of browsing(web/facebook/boards etc.). Could probably stretch 48 hours out of it if i was just using it as a phone and letting a few things sync in the background.

If I turn on GPS, even if I am not using my apps, I can pretty much watch my battery drain. Few hours and it will kill it. I keep it off all the time unless I need turn by turn navigation.

Does the GPS icon appear in the notification bar? If so, an app is actively using the GPS. I never turn my GPS off, it's not used unless I have a GPS app open
