It was like a continuous roar of air with high pitched whine. it lasted about 5 minutes.. started quiet, then got louder and louder until it sounded like it was overhead, then quieted down and seemed to be moving away. We couldn't see any lights or plane or anything. It is headed towards the town.

Calling all insomniacs! Would you mind sticking yer heads out the window and see can you see anything? Really freaked out here! o_O

Have just heard that they said on 2fm that an army helicopter would be flying over Ireland tonight. They said it would sound like a humming noise. This sounded like a roar of pressurized air, or a really loud powerhose . Only really really loud.

Have heard that noise 5-6 times over the last year. Sometimes sounds kinda like a hot air ballon taking off or a pressure valve being released. Its always at night I hear it. Maybe it happens during the day and I don't notice it with other noises. As you say the sound builds up and then dies down like it's moving away

This is only one example of using technology to receive this sound but I don't think it can account to all of these sounds all over the world...

I find it interesting that the area it’s supposedly coming from is a high security area under Homeland Security. Now why would that be? What are they making there. No one knows but I bet it isn’t good. It even has strict limitations on filming.

Already a thread or two on it here

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056521545

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056557670

for what its worth, a quick google search will get you some info on it from scientists.

Pretty sure some explanations given in the threads also actually.

Edit: also, anyone else think it might be Godzilla?

Only if he's floating. Youd hear the footsteps with him.
    Could be Mothra?

Its the noise Godzilla makes when he is coming out of the water though isnt it?

I can just see him now rising his scaley head up outta the Suir!

    Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
    What are they feeding you?
    Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat
    It's not your fault

They won't take you to the vet
You're obviously not their favorite pet
    Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
    It's not your fault

You may not be a bed of roses
You're not friend to those with noses
I'll miss you before we're done
Or the world will smell as one

    Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
    What are they feeding you?
    Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat
    It's not your fault

    Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
    What are they feeding you?
    Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat
    You're getting fat

I think that I'm gonna be sick
It's your ears, and nose and pick
    Part of it, tempt me

All the dogs in the neighborhood
Are saying this for your own good
What, you're fat, so you can't run
No fun, I bet, No fun

    Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
Porno makes you eat like that
I saw you in the shopping mall

    Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
    It's not your fault,
    Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
    It's not your fault
    Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
    It's not your fault

We know what was in your food
They say it might affect your mood

    You smell like something dead

Orchestra practising their horror cues nearby. Obviously.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,041 ✭✭✭cocoshovel

Sounds like steam being released from something. Also kinda reminds me of a helicopter engine on shutdown/start up. I dont know what the exact sound is but they do make sounds like that without the regular rotor spinning sound.

wow! that noise is similar to what i heard a month ago! The high pitched noise was fainter though because there was also a really loud rushing sound, like roaring air. Frightenly loud!
