There is an official tour of the Coliseum you can take, with a guide etc, I'd recommend it.
As regards the Basillica, some foreign students (USA) were promoting an unofficial tour when we were there, they approach people heading towards the Basillica and when they get enough they head inside with the group, we took it and it was grand, seemed to know what she was talking about :) no charge but you were asked for a donation afterwards which you knew about before taking the tour, fair enough, we gave €10 at the end
Try not to eat too close to an attraction, having said that Piazza Navona & Piazza Rotonda are popular places to eat in the evenings
