    Ok Guys

I Hope this is not a stupid question but how do i join the suckler cow welfare scheme. I know its rumoured that the scheme will end at the end of this year but still i would like to get one years grant out of it. i know a few years ago when the scheme was first introduced that it was necessary to attend a demonstration on welfare etc but i didnt attend or join up to the scheme at that stage. did anyone attept to join lately or do you think i would be allowed at this stage when i didnt attend any welfare demonstrations. Any help would be appreciated.

You are about 3 years too late to join up. You could only get in the first year, but you could opt out after the first year

i got in last year. i contacted department in portlaois and i can't remember where they transferred call to, might've been donegal, in any case i was accepted and it was after the closing date. probably time to make contact now. once you notify them you can register calves using white cards and they will be included in the scheme. i'm a young trained farmer, can't remember if that had any bearing on it.

Can anyone tell me.. I'm taking over a herdnumber and holding that's already in SWS, can I continue on in scheme as normal.

I'm half afraid to ring them on it in case there are outstanding calves still to be paid on etc and that they close it off now as farmer retired

This year is the last year of it well that was the plan initially. I would say the budget will determine the future of it on Wednesday. A lot of people applied for it when it first started but the numbers are after decreasing every year probably because its down to 40 euro a head and many couldn't be bothered with the paper work.
I would reckon that if you take over a herd number I presume you would be taking all schemes with it. That it would be only your name that is changed.

Yes you can. I changed all into my name last year. I do all the stuff for it online and all continued as normal just with my name instead of Dads but all the payments were into my account before that anyway. You may need to provide the new bank account for payments.
