Pure Telecom have rung up my father and I caught him just about to sign up with them.

I put a stop to it but he still wants to join them, looking at a package he says is €20 a month for 8mb BB and "unlimited" local/national phonecalls 24hr/day.

He receives the €25 euro social welfare rebate which i believe is factored into this "price" already.

What is the consensus on Pure, especially their broadband?
Currently on Vodafone 8mb with 150-300gb limit.

Previous to that had 24mb bb with eircom and unlimited downloads...I miss that.

I had major hassle with the broadband part of it. Apparently Eircom has seperate lines for my telephone and broadband. I think Pure Telecom changed over my telephone line first, then Eircom used a 'dummy' phone number for my broadband line (since it needs to be linked to a number) and they didn't tell Pure Telecom, or me. So when Pure Telecom tried changing over my broadband, they couldn't. It came up with an error. They didn't let me know. I rang a month later to enquire, they said they'll try again. This kept going on, and a few months down the road I found out about the 'dummy' telephone number and gave it to Pure Telecom. All went well after that. But because of this mess I got billed by Eircom for about 3 months of broadband, AND by Pure Telecom for the same 3 months.
I also find Pure Telecom (at night time) drops to about 1Mbps download, where Eircom was roughly 3Mbps all the time. I am on the 8Mbps unlimited, uncontended plan.
I am happy with the phone service, but not thrilled about broadband so far!!!!

    Don't sign with Pure.
I signed up 2 months ago and am sorry now. I'm in a contract now when I wasn't before.
Was told B.B would be quicker. It's now slower.
Was told package for all calls and B.B would be €45. First bill was €64.54. When I queried it was told it was becaused my B.B was connected late???

    Bad experience with Pure Telecom
Switched to Pure Telecom from Eircom 12 months ago, phone and broadband package. Re-occuring problem with my Outlook Express since, can send but not receive. Previous incident four months ago and when I contacted their broadband support, was lucky enough to make contact with one of their technicians who had the expertise to sort it out in short time. Problem re-surfaced a few days ago and when I made contacte again, lady I spoke with informed me that Pure Telecom are not responsible for incoming mail. After some harsh words she eventually put me on to a technician who made a haphazard attempt to solve the issue. Eventually informed me that as I still had an Eircom E-mail address, I would need to contact Eircom to have the matter sorted and gave me a phone number. He also promised to check out my problem with other technicians and call me back, he never did. Called the Eircom Number he gave me and was asked for my telephone number and informed that I was not listed in their system. End of story. Eventually got a PC repair man who after 10 mins and €50 euro had be back running smoothely.
Returning to Eircom in double time.

    P.M.

Have no idea, was previously an Eircom Customer before changing to Pure Telecom but retained my Eircom E-mail address. Technical Supplort at Pure Telecom could not solve my problem.

That's not tech supports job though. their job is to make sure your internet is working.
A bit like ringing the ESB if the oven stops working.

I'm not sure, it's a long time since i was with eircom but I think you have to be on an eircom connection to access your eircom email

No. Eircom e-mail is accessible from any ISP. If you have an Eircom e-mail account and are using an enail client like Outlook then set the incoming server to "webmail.eircom.net" and the outbound to whatever server is supplied by the ISP, this can be got from their website usually.

Thanks for all your comments, getting back to Eircom, will hopefully solve the issue.

I presume as you mention Outlook Express you are still on Windows XP, as Vista and newer windows versions no longer support or use it (Windows Live Mail replaced it). Going back to Eircom will generally not resolve the incoming mail issue, as it is usually settings related.

May I suggest you go into the accounts setup in Outlook Express under "Mail", delete the account follow the instructions from the link below to setup as if a new account.

    http://products.secureserver.net/email/email_outlookexpress.htm

As also mentioned the incoming (POP3) email setting for Eircom.Net is webmail.eircom.net

Try this first and see how you go.

    Regards

Thanks cunnijo for the advice, really appreciate it. I have stored this carfefully for future reference. I am a senior citizen and afraid, I am what is best described as a P.C, dummy, just about able to do basic things, after that it's rocket science. My operating system is Windows XP and I have no big inclination to graduate to something, maybe more complicated. The system is runnig O.K. right now but I have no doubt my Outlook Express problem (unable to receive but can send) will return. If and when, I will endeavour to follow your instructions and see if that will bring about a resolution.

    Kind Regards

Sorry I thought it was. Was it the case before that their email was only accessible in an eircom connection. For some reason I have this stuck in my head

I recently switch from eircom after a year to puretelecom. The day puretelecom took over i have no Internet, it's now day 6 and still nothing. It's everyone's fault but there own.
I sent an email today telling them I was switching to someone who can provide me with Internet, which was ignored and instead of getting a new provider I got a technician out who even advised me to change as I looked at his device that checked my line saying all is ok.
I dont know what's going on all I want is Internet.
Can anyone advise me what in God's name is going on, because from what iv seen puretelecom has being lien to me from day one

Sky broadband should be the answer to all your problems. their system is trouble free with an excellent signal (maybe a little more expensive) and they have an excellent Customer Service. They are also in the process of rolling out their efibre broadband network.
