dog STILL eating her own poop

ok as the title suggests, my 2 year old cocker spaniel STILL eats her own poops. she has no intrest in my other dogs poop.

only at home, not on walks.

    I have tried several tricks:

    - pineapple in her food
    - she's on a high quality food (mixed with a LITTLE bit of Pedigree wet food)
    - tried the chili flakes or tobasco but its impossible to be after her every time she poops
    - tried tablets from pet shop

She has just been cauhgt again, was in the garden .

Would anyone have any recommendation about tablets that actually work ?

I am feeding them twice a day. I think I'm feeding them enough. Will I start free feeding and let her eat as much as she wants ? would fights break out ? (I feed them from different bowls a few feet away but going well)
If I started making food available to them at all times, would they eat 3 times the normal amount or would they actually know when to stop ?( they LOVE their grub)

maybe she isn't digesting her food properly so it still smells like food? No suggestions except follow her out after meals with a shovel:)
At least it's her own so she's not getting infected with parasites. My lovely dog takes a mouthful of anything we pass on walks...

That's unusual that the pineapple doesn't work but maybe it's a habit now at this stage. A high pitched ahah when he goes near poop and if on a lead move him away from it.

actually I dont the pineapple regirlay, one and off, I tend to forget. would I need to do it every day twice a day with meals ? tinned pineapple is fine ?

These are great, easy to get your dog to eat them as they are treats! But you need to feed them everyday until tub finished

    http://www.amazon.com/NaturVet-Coprophagia-Deterrent-Soft-Chews/dp/B003IFRZ0M

PM if you can't buy them online as they are sold in Dublin

Ahhh that could be where the issue is, you need to feed a chunk/triangle of pineapple about twice a day for a week at least. I used I think the Del Monte or similar brand of tinned pineapple the one that's in it's own juice with no additives or anything else in it.

The pineapple has to be fresh, the enzyme that acts on protein is destroyed by the heating process as its tinned.

For the next week, get your dog big hard bones (not small to prevent choking) some meat on to entice the chewing, let her enjoy these and after that she will have gained an appetite for solid hard food and coprphagia will be less enticing. Have fun!

Many years ago my dog ate hers one day when i took her for a walk.... I COULDNT BELIEVE IT!! (The taste must have been horrible :D)

many thanks for all your advice, didnt know pineapple would have to be fresh, have been giving her tinned pineapple.

I would be very reluctant to give her bones , they are strictly no longer allowed cos I have two dogs, no need give you any more details here .... :D

If you can avoid giving your dog the wet food i would ... This can reek havoc on a dogs digestive system and can speed up the passing causing any food eaten to be undigested (giving the dog the urge to eat its poo). Cockers are prone to ibs and the wet food wouldnt help .. If your worried about the taste of the food you can use a bit of salmon oil on your dry food that should give it some flavour... pm me if you need to know more ill give you my num

What is the high quality food? Mine was on Royal Canin and she used to eat her own poo then she started eating all the poo around her :( we talked to a lady from ADAPT at the Pet Expo and she said that she had seen this before and always with royal canin. We switched to another food and it stopped within a week no more poo eating.

(now she just likes to roll in any poo she finds. :P)

They were trainers I think, I could very well have the name wrong though, it was nearly 2 years ago. They had a stall and we talked to them about basic training. :o

Edit: I just checked online and can't find anything, so the name may well be wrong!! But the advice was good :)

APDT I'd say is who it was. Association of pet dog trainers is what it stands for I think.
