How much do you spend weekly on (after rent and bills):

    Food shopping:
    Social Life:
    um.... Other:

and how well is it working out for you?

    Food: 50 a week.
    Social Life: 20 a week.
    Other: 1,000 - 5,000 a week.

    Working out quite well.

    hmmmm

Dunno if I'd call it a budget but here's how it goes

I rob peter to pay paul!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 553 ✭✭✭mysteries1984

    Smokes - about €65
    Food - about €60
    Transport - about €30-50
    Going out - €20
    Toiletries - €10

This is all approximate. I'm pretty horrified at the amount I spend on bugger all, to be honest. So it's not working out great. About €180 a week or so. And I have a debt I'm paying off, that's about €455 a month. Doom. No idea how I've managed to survive so far.

260 quid a month on cigarettes? 40 on 'toiletries'? You could save a fair bit if you just quit smoking and stop sh***ing so often.

In the past I would have bought all of my shopping in the one place, but not any more. I've learned to be a lot smarter with my money. I don't buy convenience food, and I make everything from scratch. Its cheaper that way, and better for you too.

Shower gel, toothpaste, and shaving foam don't cost 40 quid a month! If they do you're doing it wrong. Refer to your mam for instructions. Toilet paper costs about 20 cent in Tesco. If you're spending anymore than that a week on jacks roll you're either eating too much or need to see a doctor.

    Rent €140
    Shopping €100 - €120
Socialising is a one day blow out on Saturday, could be anything from €100 to €300 depending on how much I want to drink/bet!

    Weekly Wage: €835.00

    Rent: €75
    Loan: €75
    Petrol: €50
    Food: €50
    Socializing: €50
    ESB: €30

Not forgetting other expenses like, car tax, insurance, sky, broadband, etc.

Crazy isn't it? I wish I could get some sort of BTEA!! I paid €330 for my up front car insurance out of my wages this month and I am totally broke.. And I only got paid for the month on the 28th..

    20 cent? Link?

40 a month isn't that much. Add shampoo to your list. And aftershave. Moisturiser perhaps. Deoderant. The odd topical cream here and there. For the ladies add more stuff again.

I personally wouldn't spend 40 a month on such things because I don't shave my face and wouldn't be worried about moisturisers and the like but it's fairly easily done.

A good quality make up and a good foundation brush can make ur foundation last ages. I have a bottle of foundation that I got at xmas with my bonus that I have used every day, nd I still have half a bottle left. (€45 a bottle) A blusher (€35) that I got last august is still going.

when I was using the cheap stuff it'd be two different types of foundation and I'd spend €25 a month alone on that. Debenhams is my new best friend, expensive, yeah, but it lasts ages and their advantage card is another incentive.

Link? Just go to ****ing Tesco and pick up Tesco value jacks roll. If you open it and rub some chocolate on it, you can take it for free. If I'm lying I'll refund you the difference.

I'm basing this on men, as I've never gone out in drag so I wouldn't be able to comment on women. For a man, 40 quid a month on toiletries is mental. Men shouldn't be using shampoo. Shower gel will do grand. Shampoo is a gimmick, you'll never look like Liv Tyler, stop kidding yourself. Moisturiser is for pansies and nancy boys, all children should be taught to shun male friends who talk about shampoo and moisturiser. And those who require topical creams should learn not to associate themselves with those with herpes as they are lepers.

Yep, I'm a girl. Shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, make up, waxing, tampons, shower gel, moisturiser, body lotion etc, and it all adds up.

'Toiletries' does not specifically refer to loo roll, thanks. It was a shorter way of saying all of the above because I didn't think I'd need to expand on it.

Yep, I know how you feel. I've cut down on what I do spend on make up and only buy when I really need to. If I had a credit card I'd probably shop online to make a few savings but I don't buy it often enough to justify it, really. I've tried cheaper make up but it just makes me look like I didn't get enough sleep :o

Whatever brands are on special offer in boots is generally all I ever buy! I love coming out of there with a receipt that says I've saved almost as much as I spent.. and the amount of toiletry sets I get for xmas make the first three months of the year a whole lot easier! Lol

You know what "topical" means in this context yes?
Not everyone is as lucky as you and I to have perfect skin alas, I can't blame some people for using moisturisers, probably handier than having to constantly unclog the washing machine when all the dead skin gets caught in it.

I assume you also spend as little as possible on absolutely everything you buy? Cheapest TV, cheapest car, cheapest food etc.?
Spending a small bit over the absolute necessity isn't something I would refuse to hang out with someone over. If so the only people I would drink with would be those who drink paint thinner.

What? Jacks roll is ****ing jacks roll. It doesn't need to be 'quilted' unless you're in the H Blocks in the Maze making a ****ing a duvet out of it. It has no impact on my wiping skills. You're obfuscating the issue. My wiping skills are second to none. I'll send you a sample and a short lived video if you'd like.

Hmm.... per week it seems to be around

    Food(for home): €25
    Food(in work): €20.45
    Social(drink/movies): €60'ish
    Smokes(rollies): €20
Clothing: €20 (not every week but the odd time i would by a few t's and tops in one go)

All the rest of my money goes on debt/rent/bills.
