    Hi,

I was thinking of taking a trip to Oslo sometime over the summer. I know Norway is an expensive country but I cannot for the life of me find an apartment to rent for under 400 euro a week. Am I being unreasonable and do they just not exist? I would appreciate the wisdom of people who have previously travelled to Norway. Thanks a bunch! :)

Was in Oslo last year and Norway is expensive- we were paying €110 a night for a 3 star hotel, something you could get here for €50. Pints were €8, a pack of cigarettes €11. Even a return train to Bergen cost in the region of €200 to do a 500km roundtrip. Compare that to the Trans Siberian that cost me €225 for a 9000km trip and you get the idea.

    Three options that might help-
    www.airbnb.com
University accomodation will be largely empty in the summer and may rent to you. You'll have to contact the accomodation offices of each university yourself as I doubt they really advertise such services on their websites but many do rent out rooms during the summer.
Find the Norwegian equivalent of boards.ie Post in their accomodation section and something might crop up, if you're on a budget then a homestay might work out quite well for you but these are the type of things that take more digging than usual.

Are you sure that wasn't Nkr200 each way? I've just done a check on NSB.no and a return date in May (for example) is Nkr398 (about €50).

OP, you'll struggle to find accommodation in high season Oslo for that kind of money. You may have to either go outside Oslo or something more humble.
