I see with vodafone you can get a sim only on a 30day contract, but i wonder if they would look for proof of address and all that? i suppose they will, i am only going on a tourist visa for 6 months, pre-pay would prob be a bit on the expensive side.

On prepay with vodafone you can get $1000 worth of calls for $50 per 30 days @ 90 cent a min plus 40 cent conection (is this the norm having a conection fee ?) which work out at nearly 770 mins for local calls but what i really want to know can you get a sim card as soon as i walk into a phone shop and get a sim and be active straight away?

I think by 30day contract you mean 'Cap'.
You will not get any contract on a holiday visa.
Pre-pay is pretty much the exact same (rates, price etc)
They don't look for proof of address - they look for an address (that you register with online or in shop)

Have a look at a thing called caps, for $30-50 a month (prepay) you can pretty much get unlimited text messages and a lot of calls.

If you are travelling around, Telstra have the best coverage, followed by Optus, Vodafone are not highly regarded here

    e.g. https://optus.com.au/shop/prepaidmobile/turbocapplus

Well they say they use the Optus network, as Optus seem to be the best network, cant see there been a problem, i will sus it out when i get there and call into one of there shops.
I see there international call rates to Ireland are only 15 cent.

    Anyone here use Amaysim?

One of the lads told me about it in work. For only $40 a month you get unlimited text and talk (to landline and mobile) free social networking and a fairly massive 4gb of data

No lock in contract either, just give them 30 days notice and your out. They run off the telstra network as well so coverage shouldn't be a problem.

    Seems fairly sweet!

They are a pretty solid and reputable company.

    Seems very cheap
