I received a letter today from social welfare saying that my back to education allowance is been reviewed. I cant really think of any reason why. Would i be correct to assume ive most likely been reported by someone ?

Does it come with a form that you need to have stamped by your college?

Why would you think you have been reported by someone? You qualified for BTEA. It could just be a general review of all BTEA people. SW sometimes focus on different schemes so maybe there is a focus on BTEA at the minute.

No just asks me if im still attending ? It also asks was all the info i gave them true.

It just says its been reviewed.

Its a bit of a joke im half way through semester 2 and there coming up with this ****.

Im guessing someone reported me as i have purchased a fairly fancy car and been to vegas since i came back to college. The simple fact is that on the outside these may seem like mad purchases but the car is essential as i travel to college and i won the vegas trip. Jealousy is a funny thing.

I explained a few reasons above as to why.

Well you have nothing to worry about then.

You must be a registered student to receive it. So they can do checks on this throughout the year. Your means do not come into this unless you have a partner and they have commenced working and the like. From the guidelines for BTEA:
Participation in the Back to Education Allowance may be periodically reviewed, to confirm that the conditions of entitlement continue to be satisfied. Local social welfare offices are also encouraged to engage in annual control exercises on BTEA which investigate if participants continue to attend their chosen full time courses of study on a full time basis and continue to satisfy the conditions of the scheme.

As outlined in circulars 82/08, 107/09 and 65/10, it is good practice to request BTEA customers to supply written evidence of ongoing full-time attendance at school/College. Results from these control exercises should be forwarded to the BTEA central policy section where they can be critically examined and inform future policy on BTEA.

Similarly, where control exercises on BTEA are initiated and carried out in social welfare regions throughout the country, results should be forwarded by the Regional Manager to the BTEA central policy section for examination.

    As eastbono stated earlier:

If you were being investigated for Social Welfare fraud/report, you wouldn't just receive a letter in the post asking if you were still in college.

Usually they don't review during the second semester but noticed on another thread that someone on BTEA was asked to produce letter from the college during this semester. They were in year 3 of a 4 year degree and had just finished work experience in December. Any chance you are in same situation? If you are, they may be just checking that you'd returned to the college full time after the work placement/internship etc., which was part of your course.

I just got a letter asking was I still in attendance and a form to be stamped by the college. I sent it back by registered post something I'd recommend doing with any correspondence to any social welfare department.
