Where is best for PowerBar?

I always use PowerBar after the bike for recovery, just one of those habits I suppose.
The guy I used to buy from has moved away so I can't get it anymore :(

I only want to buy one tub really and the only place that does it in Ireland seems to be this place with free delivery on one tub at a time because it's cheaper than most of the websites minimum order.

Are they new or does anyone know about them? Do they take long?

Bike24 is pretty good, but there is a delivery charge. http://www.bike24.com/sport-nutrition.html

Phone number on website gets to a voice message for Lifecycle (http://www.cycle.ie/about.html ? )

In which case, this looks to be a new, internet retail channel, alongside the wholesale/trade-only Lifecycle - both located in Ballyboughal Ind Premises. If this is the case, looks to be a good place to shop online.

    Price Comparison:-

    Energise Bar (C2Max Banana x 25bars)

    CRC - €51.42
    CycleSuper Store - €43
    Alimaysports - €39.99 - Cheapest

    Powerbar Isoactive Drink (1.32kg)

    CRC - €27.22
    CycleSuper Store - €30
Alimaysports - €26.99 - Just about cheaper than CRC

Alimay is 10% cheaper than CycleSuperStore. But IMO, I prefer to be able to drop into a shop if there any issues. Also prefer to buy from physical retailers (even if shopping online) where there is no big price difference.

Powerbar during a cycle good idea, why not eat some real food as a post training meal?

I use Kenetica Recovery Drink, rather than the Energy drinks, for post-training.
For me, I get my post-workout carb/protein in fast before I can binge on crap. Then I can take my time (in theory :-)) to eat properly.

I know CRC have it but they don't stock what I'm looking for, it's this protein.
I thought Cycle Superstore charge for their deliveries under €50? But same problem I suppose that they don't have the 92% :( actually it's hard to find anywhere that does the proper range. If oldlegs is right then these seem to work closely with that other company so maybe that's why they have everything, happy days so!

I agree with you Redmond, real food is far better but it's just that by the time I get a shower and everything that 30 minute window is passed so the benefit is lost. I'm the same as oldlegs, that way I can relax and cook a proper meal knowing I'm still getting the right recovery as I get my Gordon Ramsay on :)

I'm going to order off them anyway and see how it goes, I'll let you know after you hang on the edge of your seats waiting!

On Bike24, €15.50 plus €10 shipping, so still cheapest shipped. If you are buying a couple of bits, there's no extra shipping so this site starts becoming quite a bit cheaper.

I think there was a thread on here last summer in which Lumen had a DIY energy drink recipe, which could be worth a search. Came out way cheaper again.

Have you tried the IsoMax? Supposed to be quite good too..

A friend was telling me that he takes that new charger stuff as well, but he's a track cyclist; said it's unbelievable for short burst and sprints, anyone used that either?

Because of the importance of getting it down you within 15/20 minutes of completing training during which time glycogen stores are more effectively restored. It's not really convenient for most people to eat real food within that timeframe.

Also, most recovery products contain a 3:1 carb:protein ratio which is proven to be beneficial. Regular low-fat chocoltate milk ticks all the boxes, so you don't neccesarily have to go for the expensive proprietary products.

Cyclegooberstore give a 10% loyalty card discount or 15% for someone who's bought a bike there, so that would bring the price right down...

I've used that on some longer events. It contains electrolytes, so no need to add the likes of Nuun for endurance events. Their IsoActive line is similar, but omits the caffeine.

Thing on 'de telly' recently tested recovery drinks against a pint of milk.

The milk was more use for muscle repair.

    Recovery drinks taste better though.
And they come in a cool big tub you can use for storing stuff.
I'm a kinetica recovery fan, hi-5 4:1&gels on the road, and kinetica protein when in strength training

Stager tested out chocolate milk's performance as a workout recovery drink on nine cyclists. In his lab, each athlete biked until exhaustion, and then rested for four hours. During this break, each consumed low-fat chocolate milk, Gatorade, or the high-carbohydrate sports drink Endurox R4. Afterward, they cycled to exhaustion again.

The results were positive. His research team concluded that the athletes who consumed chocolate milk performed just as well or better as those who drank the other beverages. The high carb and protein content in milk make it an incredibly effective recovery drink, Stager said -- even though it's never been marketed as one.

But to get >25g of protein would that not mean drinking about a litre of milk?

Also, isn't milk protein a casein? That's pretty slow to metabolise as opposed to whey..

So you need about a gram per kilogram, so your liter of milk is a quarter what you need.
The rest of your diet should take care of everything else no?

I think milk contains whey, doesn't it?

But have to drink a litre of it to get what most products can do in 200ml of water. Another reason I try to avoid milk is that the carbohydrates are sugars, so I try to get my carbohydrates as complex carbohydrates I.E. food. Ye the rest of the protein comes from food, it's really bad to get it from powdered sources, particularly the lack of fibre :o

No, milk doesn't have whey. Whey is actually the waste product of producing milk and cheese etc, hence why glanbia now own two different sports nutrition brands.
