    Is this normal for these?

Car not using any oil so I must assume its because it's a direct injection and there for its more like a diesel?

Had me wondering because I was looking at my father in laws Suzuki Swift exhaust and it's as clean as a whistle.

    Bottle of Diptene
    Half fill your tank
Drive the ,,$hite out of it.
Bet ya that will clear it.
Normelly happens from toddling around on very low revs.

I do drive it like I'm driving Miss Daisy to conserve fuel. :pac:

I stick to 6th gear if the revs don't fall below 1,500. So ths would cause soot to cover te exhaust tips?

Im my view ? Certainly would and would also foul the plugs I would guess.
You should give it a good drive from time to time.

Is it mostly city driving also?

Cars need a good drive every so often. Pottering around all the time at very low rpm can be worse for the engine then driving it harder.

And it dont mean its using less fuel. The engine is most likely using more juice driving at low speeds in 6th gear..

No not city but town driving. I guess I'll give the car a good drive once a week or so and stick to 6th on motorway driving or 100kph.

Just to add I never let the engine labour though. It develops it's maximum torque of 200nm from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm.

I have let it rip a couple of timed but not very often.:pac:

Lol, beat me to.it : Village driving ? Hamlet driving ?

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Sure what's the definition of a city? Must have a cathedral or something?

Maybe driving near a cathedral makes an engine run differently then driving near a normal church:P

I normally wouldn't be a fan of additives but if the deposit built up is noticeable in the tail pipes I can only imagine the state of the combustions chambers etc.

Thanks, I'm going to have a look. I don't think anywhere around here sells it though.

My car has had a sooty tailpipe almost from new and it's never bothered me. Is it really an issue?

No, not an issue at all, as the car is driving great, not using oil and fuel consumption is also good.

Googling bring up next to nothing but there are a couple of sites that reckon its normal for these.

I just wanted the opinion of those that own a car with this engine (your the first to chime in) and those that are the experts here.

It seems, that some that I thought expert are less expert and more :pac:

Get it and use it. It won't do any harm at all.
