    hi
i am on htc desire 2.3.3 GB
i keep getting this memory problem very often.
i am aware that by rooting the phone we can gain extra space.
but does rooting mean losing 2.3.3?
i am not interested in other roms
i only need root access so that i can move apps to sd card

which is the best method to root this phone without installing any other custom rom?

    thanks in advance

install a decent memory card and move all non essential stuff (pics, video, music) from the phone's inbuilt memory to the add in memory card.

i dont have much info on my external card.
i believe the phone complains for lack of internal memory space due to existing apps.

    Get a new phone.

This problem been plaguing old Android phones like a disease and still does for the lower and mid end handsets. Higher ones have more internal memory so their fine.

There are some roms that integrate part of a card partition to make the phone think its internal memory but this reduces the phone performance.

You can try going to settings > applications and move each app to SD card but it wont move all of the data and not all apps are enabled to do this.

Root phone... I also have a Desire and rooted a year ago. Do your homework first tho! Once it's done the options are near endless:-)

I tried cyanogen and haven't looked back. I'm not sure if the stock HTC rom will work with an app called s2e, but try Googling it. The use it to move your dalvik cache to your SD card, that will give you about 40mb more or more

thanks KAGY.. S2E works only on cynogenmod

    rooted the phone with revolution
partitioned my sd card for 1GB ext4
    installed supernova rom
now i have stock rom with supernova and 800mb internal memory still left unused after installing quite a few apps.
    i am happy now.
