Bloating/Distention

    Hi,

    Just looking for some advice.

I have suffered badly over the past year or so with abdominal bloating/distention as well as constipation. It tends to get worse throughout the day/after i eat. I have been to my gp who only recommended an increase in fibre, which has only made a very very slight difference, and have also had blood tests which have ruled out any intolerances.

Its really starting to get me down and looking for advice from anyone who has suffered from this and/or has found the reasons behind this frustrating problem. At its worst i look about 5 months pregnant!!

Im thinking of going for a colonoscopy in another bid to diagnose this problem. Perhaps there may be an underlying problem or maybe something i will just have to live with.

Hopefully there are others with similar issues who may like to share their thoughts/advice.

    Thanks

You could try coconut oil, that helps with bloating and constipation.

You also may have an intolerance to one or more things called FODMAPS, which are certain types of carbohydrate that are more prone to causing fermentation in the small intestine for susceptible people. Fermenting = gas = bloating. There is no tests for FODMAP intolerance only an elimination diet, it's highly unlikely you are intolerant to all of them but the only way to find out which one's you are intolerant to is cut them all out for two weeks and then introduce one by one. You'll know pretty quickly which one causes a reaction.

    FODMAP foods

You might feel a bit crappy for the first week, but that's normal and a sign that it's working.

I second the FODMAP and elimination diet there both very good for something like this :)
also a good acidophillus supplement is great for constipation and bloating just helps normalize the bacteria in the gut , which will help with poor digestion and bloating! i used to have a very swollen tummy to before i started taking this :)
its so annoying going out etc and looking bloated and feeling dreadful ruins your day :( i know how it felt.. good luck and let us know how you get on :D
