Fast food ads

    Just seen an ad for KFC and that bucket of chicken kills me every time. I'm not obese or anything but I'm tryin to stay active and maintain a healthy weight. These ads really do tempt me but don't ever act on them especially not at half ten at night but jasus I'd love to tuck into a feed of fast food without havin to pay the price. I have bad gut so that kinda helps too keeping me away. I'm wondering should these ads be banned cause my mouth waters when I see them so I can't imagine how hard it is for the heavier people not to have food on the brain after seeing a bucket of the colonels finest or is this just me. Maybe I'm out of order for sayin this.

    No, food ads shouldn't be banned! Where would it stop - cheese, butter ads etc would end up banned.

    In the case of KFC (which I love) they now list the calories on their menu so you can make an informed decision. A great move IMO and one that should be law sooner rather than later. Really shows you the damage of 'going large'

    It's just the fast food ads that put the longing on me. If I saw an ad for mitchelstown cheese my mouth wouldn't be watering its just the presentation. Kids family and you can't see a hint of grease. Everyone know fast food is bad from the minute u go in the door. A four year old cant read how much calories are in something. If calories are placed on menus it will be good but as for making a difference I'm not sure. I will still get the bucket of chicken mac whopper or Whatever and feel bad about it afterwards!

    MaccyD's have been putting it on the back of their tray top flyer for years now.

    Aaaah your killin me. What a spread I'd make absolute dust of the lot but not before the fat pants are donned! Except the corn on the cob and the beans. The kandy ketchup would be my red sauce of choice.

    lol, see banning the ad's from the TV would have no effect. They'll hunt you down.

    Ha ha. As long as they don't invent a television with the smell of the KFC coming out of it I just might survive. Thank god for obese a year to save my life and the fattest loser to make me feel good about myself!

    Going by this logic all ads should be banned-you see a choc bar ad you want to buy the bar-you see a payday loan ad, you get one and end up bankrupt etc.
    Alot to be said for self control and self reliance instead of wanting a nanny law to shield people from temptation

    I have pretty good self control but what about people that actually don't and are big because of eating too much. What's the difference In banning the ads for fags. I still know where the shop is if I want to buy them but not seeing them advertised I'm sure helps people that are off them.

    You could make the arguement for banning all food ads as its pretty much only processed foods that advertise thats exactly what gets obese people where they are.
    You could also ban clothing retailers and bookies from advertising as alot for people end up with life destroying debts, and Ive seen both at 1st hand. theres probably plenty of other businesses the arguement could be made for so where do you draw the line?
    Plus with fags buying that pack has a domino effect due to addiction that just doesnt carry over to fried chicken.
    Anyway if they cant see an ad and not act on it then they dont have the willpower to pass a shop or chipper and not buy something anyway. The ad isnt the problem its either sheer greed or a genuine emotional problem

    Its law now in a few of the larger countries were KFC, McDs operate. USA, OZ etc. Made sense for them to bring it in here off there own bat. McDs and KFC paticularly get a lot of stick, but in reality they are prob the best of all fast food places when it comes to health and nutrition information.

    Nah, of course not. It has to be per portion
    It has a † after it, so i'd assume that explains exactly. If I had to guess I'd say its 4 portions.

    yeah, the 4 packets of chips would indicate 4 potions. Sounds about right, although i'd say the bucket of chicken looks way bigger in the picture than it actually is.

    Yeah, I was basing the 4 portions onm 4 chips.

    If I had to estimate the calories I would have said;
    Chips = 250 x 4 = 1000
    chicken = 200 x 10 = 2000
    Beans = 1 tin = 400
    corn = 150 x 2 = 300
    Pepsi 2L= 200 per 500ml bottle = 800

    Which is 4500 or 1125 per portion. Pretty close to the stated 1135, so real surprises there.

    What ads? seriously -if you were to write the actual law how would you word it, so there is no ambiguity, i.e. I am looking for legalistic language here.

    I have asked before but never have seen a clear legal definition of what people consider "junk food" before. The usual problem is when you have a broad definition you might see foods like butter, avocado, dessicated coconut, grapes etc being banned too.

    I know the question seemed stupid but last time I ate fast food there was no taste from the fries so they could literally be made of nothing :P
