Just wondering whats the best age range to train a dog? and whats the chances of training one of 18 months?? who has just the basics so far as in will sit, stay, return on the whistle and pick up and bring back cold/dead game but has not been brought the next step as in flushing or going into heavy cover or retrieving a bird thats just been shot. also whats the chances of it picking up on the habits of another dog runing along side it which knows whats what..

once the basics are done most of the hard work is done and the rest is down to experience for the dog and also how good the dog is. problem is you won't get much work on game this time of year cause of nesting birds ect. best continue with the basics and come late autumn when you can start running him on game it should all fall into place if he is bred right for the job. some lads like to run young dogs with older ones but i much prefer to let em find their own way and focus on you for instruction if any is needed.

I'd say at 18 months you should be fine.

Another dog showing him the ropes and if the breeding is their flushing and so on should come naturally all the best with him/her. :)

As long as the dog hasn't learned any bad habits, then you could train at any age.
