Hi folks I need to get some info for some friends of ours.
A married couple he is in university and gets his dole on the education allowance I think,it's 188 and his wife claims a dependant in him to make their total claim 312 plus rent allowance 88.
She has been offered a CE scheme and there not sure how much extra she will get but how it will effect the rent allowance payment.
I searched this forum but couldn't get them any info,
    Cheers

    Secondary benefits

You will retain your medical card.
You will retain an entitlement to the secondary benefits you were receiving immediately before going onto Community Employment provided you continue to satisfy the conditions for these benefits.
Rent supplement: The amount of Rent Supplement which you get may be reduced.

I must confess reading how to calculate rent allowance gives me a headache. But at the minute the wife is getting 124 (dependent adult rate),this will increase to 210 (CE scheme rate)weekly increase of 86 euro how much of this is taken into account for RA is beyond me sorry.

I can't tell you how its calculated, but I just finished a CE scheme in January, I was getting 20 euro more per week for doing the scheme. My rent allowance was not affected.

    Hi!

Earnings from a CE scheme are treated in the same way as part time earnings in respect of rent or mortgage interest supplement

The first €75 above the SWA rate for the family size is disregarded.

Any amount above that has 25% disregarded.

It is usual to allow for travel at about €20-25 per week.

So if the total earnings were €95 above the SWA rate, there would be no affect on rent supplement.

Hope that gives you some idea!:)

If he is on BTEA and she is on CE, their income would be 188+208 = 396

The SWA rate for a couple with no children is 310.80.

They are 85.20 Euro over the SWA rate. The first 75 Euro is disregarded, leaving about 10 Euro above, which would normally be assessed at 75%. As above poster says they can allow travel, although this is non-statutory and is not always applied.

If the travel allowance is applied, their rent supplement won't be affected at all, unless either of them get extra income (both BTEA and CE allow you to work on top of your studies/scheme)

If it is not applied (or for example there are no transport costs), they will lose about 7.50 Euro a week from their rent supplement.

    What do you mean?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Guidelines only say 'reasonable' amount though a previous poster gave a sum of €20 to €25 being usual.

Income taken into account for Rent Supplement
Net income from employment (this is gross income less PRSI and reasonable travel expenses...

Could anyone give up to date advise on this please?
Single person living alone. Currently on JSA of e188 with RA of e58.
Applied for a CE scheme locally where there'd be no travelling expenses involved.
Am I likely to lose some of this RA if appl is successful?
Also, will be applying for FA (FUEL) ... is there likely to be any impact on this if approved?
    TIA...
