Chemistry of Pharmaceutical Compounds vs Education in Science?

Hi, I'm looking for a bit of advice. I'm currently in 1st year Chemical Sciences and am unsure which option to choose for next year. I really think I'd like teaching but am wondering is there loads of physics in it and I like the sound of CPC because I'm interested in drug synthesis and that kind of thing but it looks very difficult. Anyone with any experience of either, please get back to me.

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Hi, as far as I know, CPC is only available from the biological & chemical sciences course. I don't think education do physics, just chemistry and maths! (I'm doing CPC) You might want to check out about doing CPC from your course, a quick email to humphry moynihan would probably clarify that.

In education you do 6 weeks of placement in second year, and some again in third year, but you would be doing all the same chemistry as for CPC. In CPC you have 5 months of placement in the summer before your final year.

Does that help at all? If it does feel free to ask more questions.

@AOI What's the workload and labs like in 2nd year for CPC? I'm the same as Corkgirl18 trying to decided between Education and CPC.

The chemistry labs are all the same for education or for cpc.
For CPC there are biochem labs too, microbiology ( only 3) and physiology (these don't have write ups, just mcqs at the end. All the biochemistry (8) labs are written up in the lab, like the first year module.
In education you do teaching practice so that would kinda equate to the same workload
as the extra labs in cpc, as you have to do lesson plans throughout the year as well.

You have to do Mathis in education (I'm almost certain everyone has to but it could be an option.) so if you're not very good at Mathis I'd take a step back from education.

    Thanks a million Aoi.
You can do teaching from the Chem Science option and Maths is optional. 6 weeks of work experience in 2nd year sounds pretty scary but I think I've decided on the teaching. :)

For the teaching you have just the one class, like three hours a week or something..
