Thrills and spills of jockeys out hunting

I heard a funny story from a friend who goes hunting the other week and thought I would share it.

A fairly modest jockey(not pro/ am.) went out on a hunt and he was going around a field and saw two jockeys jump a big ditch in the distance and decides that looks like fun. Unfortunately for him his horse was brave and tried the jump and ended up pitching said jockey into the ground.

The jockey ends up in hospital with a broken and dislocated shoulder and his mate from the hunt lands in to see him and asks him what the fluich he was thinking. The jockey said "I saw two jockies jump it and though that looks like fun so I decided to give it a go". What? You mean Colm O Donoghue and Paul Carberry?"

I believe FAIL is the term to use here. :D

Glad his horse was not injured after being brave enough to jump for him.

Does Colm O'Donoghue have a NH licence too?

Don't think so and I'm not sure Aidan O'Brien will be too happy to hear he's out jumping ditches with the flat season coming up soon!

I do believe that it was in their retained riders contracts (Kinane, Murtagh, Fallon) that they were not even allowed ride at certain Irish tracks like Tramore for fear of injury!

Hmm, yes that is a bit odd. Didn't think about O'Donoghue being a flat jockey.

I wouldn't mind but when I was told the story I was told it was three pro jockeys, one of which I forgot the name of and I was sure O Donoghue was the other. Carberry was definately one of the guys involved.

Who gayed up the title of my thread??

Thanks, maybe I am not as stupid as I made out a couple of posts.

I have never been to a hunt, the missus has gone on a few in the last few years but never went with her.

I assume the pros horses would look a lot better too.

You'd actually be surprised on what the 'pros' would turn up on - if it has 4 legs and can jump, then it'll do! :D

True Convert, See Carberrys pic on his twitter account and from a distance you would think his coloured horse came from Ballinasloe! Some jumper though!

What's that coloured horse comment supposed to mean, if a horse is coloured its a gypo's horse... That's an insult to every person in the country that has a coloured horse... To me that's an uneducated comment...!

lol oh the irony, is using the term ''gypo'', something we would expect from an educated person?

I think he meant to say an African American horse :pac:

Reminds me of the Michael Jackon Martin Bashir interview, "No, that's ignorant"

You wouldn't believe the number of jockeys turn up to hunt on a regular basis - both flat racers and national hunt...Cant give out names thou for obvious reasons ;)

And the best hunter (horse) that I ever met was out of a flat race mare x cob...savage horse for bank country!
