Heating Solutions for New Build

    Hi
I'm a longtime reader of posts on this forum, but now I'm looking for advice. I'm about to start building a 3000 sq ft 1.5 storey house in the meath area and I'm looking at various heating options. House will have block cavity walls, with 80mm cavity insulation and 52mm insulation board inside the inner leaf. Floor will have 140mm insulation and we'll be going for underfloor heating. Windows will be Triple glazed and taped for air tightness. Air tightness membranes fitted to roof and sealed internal walls.
I'd be interested to hear what people recommend as heating systems. I'm not sold on going full passive with MHRV.
I'm more interested in the HP option, whihc would remove need for Solar panels etc. Could people PM me suppliers they have used for HP systems and let me know how they find them. I'm concerned about the capital outlay on the HP systems, but also concerned about the rising cost of oil/gas All advice appreciated

    Thanks

Couple of comments on your spec before I comment on your heating
1 - why insulate in the cavity and then again inside - suggest a wide full fill cavity - better bang for your buck, less possibilities of errors as its built
2 - 140mm in the floor will just/just not meet building regs - suggest you review (I am using 200)

Given you are going airtight and triple glaze suggest you look more at the building fabric and spend a little more there - it will mean a much smaller HP - e.g your current spec might need a 12 to 15 (just guessing) and if you worked at it - you might get this down to 6 or 8 (again guessing)

If you are going airtight (below 3ACH) then MHRV is a must - so look at that now - make a decision to what levels of airtightness you are going to

€1 now is €€€€€ save later

Once you have driven down your demand then you can look at your heat source

    Hope that helps
