    Hahaha
Sean Bean - the man's a spoiler on two legs

Yes looks pretty much Taken with a female lead not sure if the show could work for more than one season

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

^ aye...looks good though, it's a one off show i belive, as in a proper ending. Unless it gets monster ratings and they pull a 24 on it.
Another + = location shooting in several countires in Europe, local actors etc. - it reminds me alot of XIII - The Series.

The pilot is now online: http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1867555097/

Region locked, but no doubt we can expect rips and such pretty sharpish....i'll check it out as i liked Taken.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Quite liked this. It wasn't fantastic, but it held my attention for 40 minutes, and I love a good mystery.

If I was to criticise, some of the scenes were very dark (lighting rather than tone!), and some of the dialogue was pretty bad -- like Alpha CIA guy - "I want Becca in my office before this coffee gets cold" - hmm... well she's in Rome and you're in Paris. I hope you have free refills.

I think I have to agree with a line from yesterday's pilot review on AICN:
"And if Sean Bean’s “deceased” CIA dad isn’t behind the kidnapping? I’ll eat kibble out of my poodle’s dish."

    I'll keep watching though...

Sean Bean...walking spoiler on two legs: http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/03/16/sean-bean-missing/

^ his roles are becomg a laughing stock at this stage, killed in the first 10 seconds.
    Ken Tuckers take: http://watching-tv.ew.com/2012/03/15/missing-ashley-judd/

^ i'll watch it tonight to form mt own opinion.

painful, just dreadful, bad bad bad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,533 ✭✭✭don ramo

WTF whatever about Sean Bean (biggest walking spoiler ever, as said) but since when does Ashley Judd do tv, and WTF is she doing at ABC, surely HBO or Showtime would have had better projects for someone like her,

i wasnt gonna watch this untill i saw her name, so hopefully ill get it in over the long weekend,

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

Watched the pilot just there....it's, well.....watchable, it's basically Taken with a role reversal, mom is the ex CIA instead of a man, kidnapped son instead of the daughter, location shooting....even in Paris, lol. Even the end was a rip of Mission Impossible 1....lol, we've seen all this before.

Ex CIA turned soccer mom goes to find her son, kicks ass...still has all her skillz....CIA thinks she's rouge and hunts her down etc. They pooled from everything from Taken to Bourne to sundry other films.

But having said that it's watchable enough, 2.5/5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,871 ✭✭✭Conor108

I actually really liked it. Some of the dialogue was hit and miss though. A few of the "on locations" scenes were obviously green screened, the actors and backgrounds didn't blend together well. Apart from that though I thought it was pretty good!

I watched the pilot and will keep watching. Just hope it's a one season and done thing as don't see how it can be dragged out.
At least the CIA guy asked the question I was wondering: How is she still a skilled agent if she's retired for 10 years? She should be really rusty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,533 ✭✭✭don ramo

i liked it, i dont know how they plan on getting multiple seasons out of the show, but its off to a good start,

damn though judd has some moves, the action was very good in this episode anyway, i wonder where they plan on going from here though who will drag her out of the river, and who the hell are the guys trying to kill her, and why did they take her son,

somehow i doubth that weve seen the last of sean bean in this show, i highly doubth hes dead, i cant see why they would kidnap a retired CIA operatives son,

Do you mean Taken the Liam Neeson film or Taken the series from the Sci-fi channel?

The Liam Neeson movie.... if aliens start showing up in this show, then I'm out. :)

As pointed out, it's highly likely Sean Bean is still alive, the car explosion was his own doing....to make it look like he died and i'm sure the kidnapping is either him tryna get his son back or baddies who he was dealing with using the son to get to Bean.

Either way we've all seen this storyline before, still...Judd is a MILF and can kick ass, so that makes it good to watch :)

After seeing the "Taken" reference, I was disappointed when the aliens didn't show up.

..and I couldn't help but think that Ashley Judd was the equivalent of Piper Perabo's big sister, or Jack Bauer wearing a bra.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,563 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Don't think Bauer would get many answers if he wore a bra. Or maybe he would due to the discomfort that would be felt by his prisoner.

Surely if they kill Sean Bean's character in the opening minutes, it's not a good idea to have his name second in the opening credits. Unless he's appearing via flashbacks.

He wears the dress in interrogations as a challenge to himself. If he went in dressed normally, he would get the answers before he got to break anything too important.

Since I was in Rome last year I was looking for telltale signs that they weren't really there. Seems it was just the scenes with the son that weren't filmed on location in Rome.

He would if there was a Glock in each cup.

The backdrop in the taxi with her arriving in Rome was bloody hideous!

    Entertaining enough though overall!

Can't help but laugh at ye all speculating "doubt Sean Bean's character is dead!" and "betcha Sean Bean's character is alive!" - he's second-billed in the cast and credits for fecks sake!

Oh, and while we're on the topic, anyone else find the sweeping-in-sweeping-out credits a tad distracting?

Still "in" with this show, giving it a chance...lets see how episode 2 goes shall we? :-)

    ep3 out early,

another good episode, still no idea where its going, but its holding my attention as to what they want with her son,

was anyone else kind of hoping mary was placed undercover by either the CIA or beccas "dead" husband to keep her safe, it seemed kinda odd for her to follow her to italy,

it seemed like beccas ex husband might be playing some kind of angle to say they killed yerone, but at the same time she thought becca was about to be killed so she admitted she worked for the man who killed her husband,

so i dunno WTF is happening but i like it :)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

 i how i loathe the woman....she loooked about 40!, the posh English accent, the facelifts.....stuck up mare!

Two days early cause it's being broadcast early in Canada....i love Canadian tv for this reason alone! :D

Awesome high speed boat chase!, you don't see that on tv these days...and it wasn't a CGIfest, legit shooting. I'm loving the location shooting on Missing, very average episode though....as everyone suspected, her hubby Sean Bean is the reason her son was kidnapped.

No question he's still alive, called as well super hot Polish girl being also a captive, she's playing for the baddies but you KNOW she'll fall in love with cute kidnapped boy and escaped together

She only told the truth about the man who killed her husband also kidnapped her son because she spotted the sniper, she thought...why not, she'll be dead soon...so spilled the beans, course little did she know she was in his sniper sights

Ep. 4 is out, it appears it's broadcast two days early in Canda now...for the rest of the series also, ABC broadcast on Thursday.

    OMG!...i knew it!!!!!!!! :D

I totally called it!.....Sean Bean is alive! :D , ha!....man this show is playing out exactly like i thought it would, utterly predictable

But having said that it still pretty watchable, Judd is an ass kicking MILF, nice location shooting....decent stunt/fight scenes, assortment of hoties.....it's not great tv, not even good tv....but it's watchable fluff none the less

    :)

This is the little house in the country where the son's banged up. It's in the Czech Republic, but of course they could be pretending that it's somewhere else altogether.

Anyone still watching?....watched ep. 5/6 last night and will see ep. 7/8 later on tonight, enjoyable stufff i must say. The story is moving along at a decent pace, getting closer to her son all the time.

My guess is now Sean Bean is actually trying to save his son from the Azimov group, i think Keith Carradine is the head guy from this rogue group of intelligence officers.

Yeah I just caught up there. I know the ratings are abysmal and it won't get renewed but I think it's a great show! Liking how Violet has gone all rogue and mysterious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,096 ✭✭✭An Citeog

Predictable twist at the end of the latest episode. I'd high hopes for the show after the first few episodes but it's starting to feel dragged out for me now. I don't think the writers would have enough material for a second season anyway. so hopefully they'll wrap this one up well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,990 ✭✭✭squonk

I started on this and Awake last night. Of both, I think Missing has the most promise and held my interest more after the pilot. I've only watched up til Ep 2 really. It's obvious this show is going to get dragged out. The scene at the airfield tells us that. Looks like the son won't be recruited for the CIA anytime soon, perhaps he's adopted seeing as he's nothing like Mom or Dad. You'd honestly think he'd have put up a stronger fight to slow down his being put on the place so that mumsy had time to rock up and open a can of maternal woop-ass on the baddies. Sadly not.

The US networks probably got pissed off because they ended up with a European tourist information programme.

Pity it's cancelled. I'm up to ep 8 and greatly enjoying it so far. I just hope they resolve something by the end and it's not a bottle of smoke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,871 ✭✭✭Conor108

So unfortuanate it got cancelled, it was a great show. Didn't think ABC would actually show a torture scene! Kept expecting Violet to crack just before Becca did anything.

I'll just ignore the last 2 minutes and pretend everything was wrapped up nicely.

 flips sake!...like you said, if you forget the last 2 mins it wrapped up perfectly and was a very enjoyable 10 episode story. yeah it was predictable and by-the-numbers, but the location shooting set it apart from many other network shows.

i LOL'd at the end....and then went  - why producers, WHY?

They even filmed a new intro sequence for series 2 with Becca running during the opening credits :P

Poor old Ashley Judd, now destined to be unresolvedly running into oblivion for an eternity thanks to heartless American viewers turning their backs on her and screwing the ratings.:(

Decent ending alright. Pity they showed the last two minutes. It would have been a nice self-contained series if they stopped with that aerial shot after the final shoot out.

The "I'm a mother" line was cheesy as f**k, though. :o

Watching this ATM and really enjoying it, perfect easy on the eyes trash for the summer.

Gotta love all the posters congratulating themselves on guessing that Sean Bean was alive. Anyone who thought otherwise has either never seen an episode of television before or is a complete moron. He gets second billing in the cast and alongside Judd is the most prolific and famous member of the cast.

The story is little more than a dozen genre films rolled into one, you could play a great drinking game by taking a shot every time you recognise a shot, scene or plot device from another film. That doesn't stop it from being bloody good entertainment that actually goes out of its way to make the show look much bigger than most series, shooting on location and employing practical stunt work over cgi is a refreshing change from the cheap green screen work of most shows on ATM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,990 ✭✭✭squonk

I've yet to watch the final ep but from what I've read so far, I'm left wondering! If they knew for the past while that they were gone, why not just do an 11th hour re-edit of the final ep to wrap up before the last two minutes. They surely had some dialogue or something they could have padded out the rest of the episode with, even a longer 'Last time on Missing...' intro would have bought them some time!
