    Hi,

Just got a site hosted last week for my brother in-law. Took me ages to build and is pretty basic. But any feedback or ideas on how it could be improved much appreciated.

    http://www.donegalplumber.com/

    Thanks,
    Ayeboy

Just had a very quick look at the site there and I noticed on the Contact page the footer is a different width to the rest of the content, also the facebook and twitter logos etc could be resized and made a bit bigger so that they stand out more, I would think about centering everything in the footer also but up to you.

Also the slideshow on the home page seems to have different transition times per slide I would make these a standard speed so all images are displayed for the same amount of time.

The HOME link on the Nav bar is in Capitals while the rest aren't so I would consider changing this so they all match.

I googled Donegal+Plumber and it returned a site called donegalplumber.ie so this could cause confusion among possible customers dont know if its possible to change the domain name now.

Layout and look of the site is pretty good and its very easy to use and gets straight to the point.

You should check each page on a validator also just to help you spot errors you may have missed yourself.

    Hi Donal,

Thanks for the input there!! Great to get a different opinion. I've made a few changes with footer and nav bar. The .ie domain belongs to someone else so I'll just keep with this one and work on SEO.

Ive also check with the W3C validator and it returns it ok.

Thanks again for looking over it!

    One classic mistake: no usp.

I know what your saying but it's kinda hard to have a USP for a tradesperson's website. I added a hints and tips section which is a little different from your normal plumbing sites so guess you could call that the usp....will mean I can add more content to the site which will hopefully help SEO.

With all due respect, that is utter nonsense. A trade e.g. plumber, chippie, sparkie is no different from any other business. I know lots of plumbers that have a very specific usp, and do very well out of it. Certainly miles better than those that advertise with: "can do any job of any size, any kind, any price and anywhere".

Compare "no job too small" i.e. I am desperate, with "small job specialist; small jobs, small waiting time, small prices".
