I'm looking for a new laptop for my home use.

My use movies,MS office, Internet and Skype and thats it.

My requirements are not Hi-Fi but I would prefer HD graphics and nippy laptop.

    Budget is 500 euros max.

please suggest me a good laptop in this range.

and if possible advise me about various deals and from where to buy.

I'm new to Ireland and really don't know much places around.

    thanks:)

    Have a look at komplett.ie

Two 17" Acer laptops for under 500 Euro, both with ATI Radeon HD graphics (HDMI out) and webcam. They only sport an AMD Fusion CPU, but they should be good enough for Office, internet/Skype and watching movies. ;)

The one for 417 Euro has 4 GB RAM, the one for 499 Euro comes with 6 GB RAM and a faster CPU (of the same family).

    Prices include VAT and shipping.

but do you think Acer is a good brand to start with? I have read reviews and not many people suggest Acer, especially when its your first laptop.

A they say in Texas, "You buy cheap, you get cheap." ;)

It's not a Sony or Apple, but these brands may easily bust your budget. On the other hand, the components they use are used by many other manufacturers and you're looking for a budget PC, so the call is yours.

But keep in mind, you're buying a laptop, there ain't much upgrading (unlike the options you have with a desktop). After three or four years, you have gotten a pretty good ride out of it and then it's time to move on and get a new one, regardless the brand.

Acer offers 1 year warranty, if nothing goes wrong during that period, chances are it will last another two years or three.

    many thanks

That's a pretty good deal for an off the rails Core i5 with integrated Intel graphics, although not spectacular.

If you're looking at processor power, the Core i5 is running circles around any AMD Fusion, that's for sure.

However, it you're a movie buff, you may want a discrete graphics card and HDMI out to connect it to the big screen without loss of quality (the analog VGA signal is significantly inferior).

Maybe you can elaborate on home use? Because if you're using it at home, you might be better off with a desktop, unless space is an issue.

actually I m looking for Laptop because of my job as I would be on the move like may be every 6 months. Secondly it gives advantage of mobility.

I'm not into much into projectors, I would be needing a solid machine which can run HD movies DVDs, etc.

other than that I don't have any particular need.

    Laptop for MS office,
    Movies,
    Youtube
    and browsing.,Music and email.

thats it. I don't play games (as I don't have time to be honest:))

    so what you guys suggest??

    Come on pals I'm waiting!

    many thanks!

The Toshiba is well capable for all your needs. The only drawback is the lack of HDMI out but the price if most certainly right for a Core i5 system.
