Input Frequency & Half resolution 3D questions

I'm looking at tvs and I'm just wondering if someone could answer these questions.

    1. Some TVs are quoting refresh rates of 50Hz, 200Hz, even 800Hz. I remember reading that most of these have little value as the tv can still only take a fixed input resolution and the tv is just duplicating frames. Are there any tvs around that actually have real values like the 120Hz monitors or should this value be completely ignored in almost every case once you have an okay quality screen?

    2. Some tvs and monitors are only capable of displaying half HD resolution to each eye. LG seem to do this a lot in their products. Is this the case in all panels using passive/polarisation technology or is it local to some select manufacturers or lines?

I've done a bit more research into the 3D thing and it seems that LG is a big pusher behind the polarisation 3D technology. It looks like that all screens using this technology only gets the "half resolution" effect. So any manufacturer using the polarisation method will have this drawback in their screens. This in turn gets flack from the big tv manufacturers that use active shutter 3D technology.

I wouldn't be overly bothered about 3D but I'd like to know what I'm buying.

Still not too sure about the frequency though, as even 3D on blue ray doesn't need high frequency - it just stores two images as one extra large one.

The highest Hz rate is 100Hz panel for plasma and 200Hz panel for LED. Your standard input is 50Hz (nothing higher) and the TVs are using motion compensation tech to smooth the image which is great if you're into F1 or any fast moving sport. 200Hz LED is the best for this in my opinion and will have the best quality screens but you may prefer plasma.

Yes, passive 3D is half resolution which is a waste of time if you are paying full whack for 3D content in HD. Passive 3D sets arent even as good when you are watching bog-standard 2D.

Really? I would have thought that there'd be little difference. Any articles or reviews to confirm this (without me going into a shop and asking them to place two side by side?).
