I'm currently slowly replacing the engine in a xsara VTS and it has my driven slowly daft.

What is the procedure for gearbox removal.
I'm stuck at the passenger drive-shaft.

Do I need to remove the lower rear engine mount and hose just above before removing the gearbox to free the drive-shaft or is there something im missing.

    Thanks

I got frustrated after a while and didn't take time to think so I kept trying to get the gearbox off banging the diff housing into the subframe. Not my brightest hour.

The next day i went down with a cool head and called myself all sorts of names and decided it easier just to drop the whole engine out rather than trying to negotiate with the subframe. So I undid the exhaust and a few hoses popped the top engine mount and was sailing form there.

The engine is now finally out and while i feel a little foolish it is the first time iv ever taken an engine out on my own.
