I'm in Ballincollig in Cork so I suppose I'd be getting my signal from Spur Hill.

RTE1, TV3 and TG4 is perfect while RTE 2 is terrible. Watching football in particular is like watching through a snowstorm.

Am I being very cynical or is the signal being artificially degraded to get people to move over onto saorview. I don't recall it being anything like this before Christmas.

    Anyone seeing the same thing?

Nothing is being deliberately degraded. Report the problem, if you think it's something at their end.

Retune your TV, most likely your current RTE2 picture is coming from Collins Barracks or mullaghanish, your Rte2 picture should be perfect cause your near Spur Hill, tune to CH57 or 762.000 MHz

No, they don't need to degrade the signal. Lots of people have always had poor analogue.

It's more likely you have a faulty cable, aerial, connection or TV tuner. Or local interference, perhaps from a Sky box, VHS or other modulator.

Connect aerial direct to TV (You do have outdoor aerial?) to check.

The only "Forcing" is the fact that Analogue is turned off on 24th October 2012. But the Government Campaign is advertising Sky/UPC who already have 82% of viewers. That's the shame.

Maybe RTE want people to get their service through sky or upc instead of one of the rogue installers they have enabled into business.......not saying that sky or upc are any better or anything, its just somewhere to pass the buck to.

Anyway my guess to the cause of the poor reception on RTE is still that its not tuned in to the right frequency, an indoor paper clip would get reception in Ballincollig but there are two other masts close by.

100% agreed - very little advertising of FTA+Saorview, which is a REAL alternative to SKY & UPC

Sic semper tyrannis - thus always to Tyrants

That's nonsense as neither UPC or Sky install Aerials. They only provide a Subscription based Pay TV service. Yet 90%+ of what people watch (at an average of over 3 times the TV license p.a.) on Sky/UPC is FTA on TV Aerial and Dish.

Saorview is ONLY via the TV aerial. Sky & UPC don't Supply Saorview or Freesat. They just happen to deliver most of the free channels in case you would notice you spend most of your time watching TV without their box.

Also why would RTE NL borrow over €70M to install a system for Digital TV via aerial and then want Cable TV and Sky Satellite promoted?

Maybe I should have put a smiley face on the end of that watty so you'd know I was being sarcastic.

I wasn't being sarcastic though about saorview enabling rouge installers into the business, they created a situation where their retailers are passing installations to cowboys and bypassing registered installers with the line 'the aerial industry is unregulated'. What I'd like to know is what regulations are in place for a retailer that a legit installer isnt also regulated by.

I also live in Ballincollig Co Cork and watched both rugby matches on RTE 2HD from Spur hill perfect reception. you must have a bad tv connection.

TG4 analogue from Clermont Carn has had moving horizontal lines moving up and down the screen for over a week now. Others have also noticed this so not a problem unique to me. Have mentioned this on another thread and also e mailed RTE technical but not yet got a reply.

OP is referring to the analogue signal.

Yes, still with me from the Monaghan transmitter, also saw it in a house near Ardee receiving from Clermont.

Considering how close RTE Two from Collins Barracks is to the Spur Hill channels (52 for Collins and 53, 57, 60, 63 for Spur), I'd say it's likely that in a few places errors are made when installing due to the proximity of frequencies.

They are going to cut us of when they change to digital, I have perfect RTE at present, but they are discontinuing the Bandon transmitter at change over, so no digital signal because of the hills. The say use Mullaghanish but that's not possible

The areas of Bandon where you cant get signal from Mullaghanish will be covered by saorsat

My signal is coming from 759.18 and I'm on analogue rather than digital.

I'm using a HDD recorder as well as a TV and see same issue on both. On TV CH57 is tuned in and same issue seen.

Also some people suggested a faulty cable but I suppose this should affect every channel.

If there is anyone in Ballincollig with perfect RTE2 coverage on Analogue please let me know what you are using.

The no-offset vision carrier frequency for channel 57 is 759.25 mHz.

My local transmitter seemed to drift in frequency on RTE1 a couple of months back.

Does that require a 2nd dish? and can I still connect it to all 3 TVs the same as before, assuming I have a box for each TV? or will it only receive 1 channel at a time the same as sky?

@Mikesat Just out of interest do you know what frequency you have analogue RTE2 on?

I'm in the apartments the top of station road so not sure why mine is so bad and I only see that on RTE2. I'm using an internal aerial by the way. I have another aerial on the other television and I might try that but failing that I suppose Saorview is my only option.

I tried frequency 759.25 and I see the same issue.

Thanks for all the help anyway.

Have you tried different locations for the aerial? It might just be in a poor spot with regard to the specific frequency used for RTE2 (signal cancellation or absorption).

Message for daithi dearg , i am using channel 57 UHF band 759.25 MHZ for reception on analogue for RTE 2 from Spur Hill in Ballincollig horizontal polarisation for aerial.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 128 ✭✭daithi_dearg

@MikeSat Thanks for that. Think I'll just have to try getting Saorview and sure I'll have to go that way in the long run anyway.
