Hi guys, I am new to the forum and I am looking for advice on buying a laptop.

Budget;I am will to spend upto 500euro

Intended use; internet, emailing, light gaming, basic stuff nothing heavy

    Mobility; not really an issue

Warranty; would be nice because if something does go wrong, no way will i be able to fix it

I was looking on http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/, but am abit lost really. i3 and i5 seem to be the best, but for my needs are they neccesary. Would a second hand laptop from donedeal or adverts suffice?

    Thanks Andy

I see an two ACER 17" laptops with a discrete graphics for under 500 Euro at komplett.ie, since you don't care for mobility, you might enjoy a bigger display... not too sure about the AMD Fusion CPU though.

Hard to find an i3 with discrete graphcs in that price range. If your gaming needs are extremely "light" then the integrated Intel HD should suffice.

    Thought you'd want warranty? ;)

True, I was just throwing in what you think of them really but your right id be up sh*t creek if something was to go wrong

Anything with a second generation i3 processor will suit all your needs, even the 'light gaming' one thanks to the integrated HD3000 card.

Right now there's an offer going on that site for this Toshiba, which would do nicely.

Cheers mate, i noticed the Toshiba's looked good value on that site. That website is the best around right, my brother bought a laptop off them a few months back and he spoke highly of them

I am also looking for new laptop, similair price range and rqmts funnily enough.
    Asus probably.
Anyone have any models they would recommend? the ee version is probably too small. Next size up possibly
They (asus brand) dont seem to be too easy to get in the big shops so its kind of hard to browse at the moment, my current laptop s desperately slow so window shopping is painful

"Next size up" would be the 12" variant, unlike the 10-inchers they're not limited per Microsoft decree to 1 GB RAM. Dual core Intel Atom w nVidia Ion and 3 GB RAM or dual core AMD Fusion w ATI Radeon and 4 GB RAM for under 400 Euro, take your pick.

PC world a few decent systems going at the moment in some kind of sale they have on. The have a HP with intel i3 2330m, 6 GB memory and 500GB hard drive. This is more than capable for your needs and beyond and I think they do a one year guarantee on everything they they sell. so not to bad for 499 yo yo's.
Sure have a look here for yourself http://www.pcworld.ie/aspx/Homepage.aspx

You could indeed get something second hand of the Adverts or ebay for that matter but you won't get the peice of mind of buying something decent that will last you a few years and won't realistically need upgrading for a good while.
