Private vs Commercial Tax

I know this subject has been done to death but looking for advice here. Have a 4x4 which has full duties paid (as a car), but later changed to commercial for tax reasons. If I tax it as a private car again can I still get DOE tested (less severe than NCT,car 22 years old!) or do I need NCT.
Another question, if I tax as private car can I re-fit rear seats (forgot to weld up mountings when converting to commercial!!). Full car VRT has been paid, taxed at private rate so I don't see any legal problems.

Private tax means NCT instead of doe as far as I'm aware. I would guess that you could put the seats back in but it may need to be inspected? You would have to speak to someone in the ncts to find out. You should be able to find at least some of this from the rsa website.

Commercials are DOE tested even if privately registered. Whether this still applies when you convert one back to passenger I don't know.
