I'm driving about a month and taking lessons since November last year (EDT) and coming near the end of the lessons. I want to get in and have a go at the full test soon.

If i where to pass, could i renegotiate my insurance policy after a month or two of starting it?

I just passed my full test last week, without ever being insured before. I just did the 12 mandatory lessons over 6 months, then done the test and passed.

Without ever being insured before, I just got a quote yesterday from Bestquote.ie for €1456 for the year.

Seen as your already insured, I reckon your price would be lower than mine (depending on your policy/company). As far as I know, you can renegotiate your policy if you get a full licence. The reasons being that you have to let the company know you no longer have a provisional licence.

So yes, I reckon you can renegotiate your policy price!

You probably can OP but who's to say it won't go up? The risk is higher afterall.... You're no longer supervised at all times.

When I passed my test, the insurance didn't change, probably because I was over 25. I've heard of quite a few younger lads who've had it go up after passing...

Most lads I know, including me, got some refund after passing test. Insurance was with Aviva and Axa. You need to notify them anyway, so you will find out soon, I hope. Good luck.

Refunds were certainly standard practice back when I got my full licence. However since the rule changes the premium differences are smaller, so there may be less or nothing to refund.

I remember getting a check for a few hundred when i passed the test. Ring them up and ask, no harm

It should reduce your annual premium OP.

What you will be required to do will be send them in a copy of your licence front and back and it will be calculated on a pro rata basis from the date they receive it.

If you are paying by direct debits then the refund will likely be spread across your remaining balance reducing your monthly installments.

If you paid in full then the money will either be credited onto your credit/debit card or if you paid by cheque/cash you will get it refunded by cheque.

If you paid the full amount up front then the refund will take approx 5 to 10 working days to clear.

Best of luck with the test too!
    :)

Passed test before christmas, insurance was €505 (3rd party, fire and theft, 2 yrs no claims) for the year (4 months into policy) and it came down to €380 once I emailed in a copy of my full licence. Balance refunded by reducing my remaining payments for the year.
