I want to change my '06 Hyundai Sante Fe for a 7 seater. A local Hyundai garage quoted me 8 - 9k on a trade in.

I have seen a Seat Alhambra, also a '06, in another garage for €9,450. Any advice on how to approach this? I was hoping to get away with a small amount of money changing hands..Would appreciate any advice...

    Sell Santa Fe.

Cycle around or bus it for a few days.

Donedeal for the 7 seater. You can do it for zero cash. But you will have to work at it.

You're getting 9k for an 06 old model Santa Fe?

    Seems like loads.

I'm assuming it's the old model?

Forget about the trade-in price one garage gave you as that price is dependant on the price of the car you are trading it against. The next garage may not give you the same money.

Trading a 06 SUV in for a 06 MPV is still going to cost you a bit of money. SUVs are unpopular these days due to their higher running costs. They would be alot harder to sell than a MPV, therefore any garage will want a good bit of cash from you to trade up, assuming they would be interested in doing the deal. The garage have to make a profit on the deal plus they have to factor in valeting, servicing and offering a warranty on your Sante Fe too. This is factored into the cost to change price. The days for trading with a small amount of money are well gone.

Not sure, to be honest...4wd, 2 litre diesel...

    Ah right.

    Old model = 2.0
    New model = 2.2

As I said, seems a lot for one of those.

If it is 2.0 diesel then it's the old model.

Anyway they may have given you €9k for it but may have added it back onto the price of the other car, so reality you may have got €6k. The trade-in price v the price of the other car is just fudging of figures designed to make it look like a great deal.

What is it being traded in against?

Edit:When that trade in value was being offered. i mean year, model, mileage and price.

So ugly in comparison to the new model. Especially in some of the god awful, lighter colours.

So what money did the garage want from you to trade-up?

No but what car were you offered a trade in value of 8 grand on?

if i had that Seat i'd want about 3-4 grand along with your jeep, more if it was standing me wrong money.

sorry, that's a petrol. I know I sold an 06 old model diesel back in 09 for tiny money and that you can get the new model 7 seaters for only a tiny bit more than whats being offered to the OP here

Point being, why try and sell privately and buy straight if someone is offering bonkers money, and the car being sold isn't bonkers money.

I agree but I think the OP is getting confused between a generous trade-in allowance versus the sticker price on that Alhambra.

    I was offered the 8 - 9 on a 7 seater Hyundai which was retailing about €12k

    LOL...

    Yeah, there's our problem.

No Trajet is worth that money, in any year.

So how much money did they want along with your Santa Fe for the other Santa Fe? That is the only figure that matters.

Someone offered you 8-9 of a trade in against a same year, newer model priced at 11,500? That's very good!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

That is actually good, I wouldn't bother with the 4x4 on the new model unless you need it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 377 ✭✭yobr

Sorry, let me explain. I wanted to buy the Alhambra in the link and trade in my Hyundai against it. I have not approached the garage yet as I wanted to get advice here first.

From the advice received, it appears I might also have to part with 3/4k to do this deal or alternatively sell the Hyundai privately and then hit donedeal to get the 7 seater as this is possibly the best way to get out of it at minimum costs.

Yes and no, yes it was a newer Hyundai but they were looking for around 12.5k.
