It means on or attached to the same site.

For Private co-located hospitals it means that facilities are put in place close to where many consultants have their public practice.
So that private patients coming in through emergency can be put in the private co-located hospital.
This in theory means more public space for private patients, but it also means less income for the public hospital.

It also means that the public hospital can buy services from the private hospital without a large capital outlay eg PET scanning. In theory the private hospital will be able to also buy services off the public hospital, such as specialist consultation .

It also gets private elective work as consultants bring in private patients to the Private co-located hospital as it is close to and has access to the public facilities.

Co-location also refers to having two public hospitals on the one site .
It is supposed to make things better:rolleyes:

Tallaght is a co-located hospital with , an elective , acute and paeds hospital on the one site.:rolleyes:
