Where is the best place in Ireland to live?
Positive answers only please, no negative vibes or slagging.
I am looking for reasons why you think somewhere is a good place to live.
Personally I always thought Salthill in Galway would be a nice place to live as its scenic, and Galway city centre has a good night life.

    It depends.

    Do you have kids?

    Do you have a car?

    What employment are you in/seeking?

Do you travel abroad a lot?

    Do you surf?

Do you like the urban or rural environment?

    etc etc...

What employment are you in/seeking? Retired (at 35).

Do you travel abroad a lot? Yes.

Do you surf? Only the internet. I swim 300 metres every week though.

Do you like the urban or rural environment? Both.

Dun laoghaire in Dublin right beside the sea and beaches. Great scenery up the road in killiney hill and celeb spotting in dalkey. Also dart line there and bus routes that will take you to the city centre in less than a half hour. Fresh air and not condensed like estates in ye city centre

    Are you renting or buying?

Salthill is great but expensive to buy there.

I think now is a good time to buy with cash.
Mortgages are a thing of the past in Ireland.
Renting is dead money (unless you are receiving it).

The Irish preoccupation with "ownin' a house or a bit of land" is mental.

Renting is not dead money but let's not start that debate off.

    Have you looked at anything?
Would you move out of the city, say moycullen area?

The best place to live is one with the best fit between the person and the environment.. Since it'll never ever get a mention (ever) unless i did it, let me suggest portarlington co laois (with it french hugenot heritage)

I have a budget of 50,000 Euro cash.
I was thinking of North Leitrim as I like being close to the border for cheap shopping in the North, and close to the seaside.
I am waiting to see if the fracking will go ahead there first though.
Rural within 1 hour drive of a town would suit my needs.

Limerick City! Solely because it's more laid back than most cities, people are generally very friendly and sport is a massive thing here(may not necessarily make any difference to you!)

Can't beat Heineken cup games in Thomond!!! :D Especially if you go out for day/night as well as getting the game in!

    Tipperary, the Premier County

Some of our local politcans may be crooks and the rest are too stupid to be crooks and unemployment may be high and IDA Ireland puts Tipp bottom of their league table but sure, we're poor but we are happy :)

We got hurling to distract us

Lucan , leixlip , maynooth - all just outside the m50 , with public transport and theyre not crime riddled shítholes or full of flats.

Howth, rush, portmarnock are also pretty good but a bit stuck up and expensive

Tesco, Dunnes, Aldi, Lidl, swimming pool, cinema, shopping centre, gym, good pubs, small brewrey, mcdonalds, dominos, restaurants, take aways and best of all, it's (relatively) scum free.

The record number of Gardai at the Church for christmas midnight mass was in the early 90's - 40 in uniform ,with two vans in the wings.
