Was in the shop this evening.

A guy was stocking the biscuit shelf.

He had a box of biscuits, think they were Jacobs polo biscuits.

The biscuits in the box (from stores) were on special offer, buy 1 get 1 free. Each packet was individually wrapped, but the 2 pkts then had an outter wrapper on them detailing the special offer.

As the guy took them out of the box, he was taking the outter wrapper off and putting the 2 individual packets on the shelf - which was marked with the normal price and no details of the special offer.

Thought it was a bit sly.

Is that not against the law or something?

Eh no, unless they were advertised as buy 1 get 1 free and they charged for both.

Jacobs would be interested .....they sold them to Supervalu Ballybane at a buy one get one free price and Supervalu charged twice what Jacobs thought they would.

They might even send you a free box of Polo Biskits for the tip off. :)

its not against any law. If they wanted to open up the packets and sell each biscuit individually they could, But their supplier may not look kindly on it if they got the biscuits at a special offer price and don't pass it on

No Jacobs didnt sell them to Supervalu Ballybane, they would have sold them in bulk to MSVC(Musgrave/SuperValu/Centra) which then distribute the goods. Promotions operate on a monthly or 6 weekly cycle and when they run out then excess stock is often used in this way. If it was my shop id sell them as a twin pack as they were packaged but each to their own and NO its not a legal issue in any way.

What if 'do not sell seperately' was on the outter wrapper?

Not illegal at all. Again Jacobs would not be happy with Supervalu for not 'promoting' their product but no consumer law was broken.
