eBay User Information Request

    Hi

I haven't used ebay in a while and last night I set up an auction and got a question from someone re the auction to which I replied.

A few hours later I see an email from ebay with the subject

    eBay User Information Request

In this email is part of my address and my phone number and the same from the person who earlier requested extra info.

I was raging that someone could get some of my personal details especially my phone number so easily. I would have thought that ebay would treat personal information with a bit more regard.

I might (and that's a massive might) understand giving out my number if something went wrong after the auction finished but during the auction is just a pure joke.

This ebay user could do anything with my number and in fact there is a good chance they could use it get more personal details of mine.

I rang ebay however I ran out of credit before I could get past the cs person repeatly telling me it was ebay policy and there was nothing I could do about it.

Well I will be writing a letter to their legal dept and a few newspapers as well.

I know this is a bit of a rant but I cannot understand how in this day and age a company have it in their terms and conditions that they are free to give out your number if it is requested.

It is ebay policy and there is nothing you can do about it.

Verifying a name, email address, and phone number before you send payment can be helpful for feeling confident about your seller and following up later if there is a problem.

I understand but the above would suggest that it's only after the auction has finished.

Once my current auction is over I will be closing my ebay account.
