    Hi,

My 2006 Focus 1.8 FlexiFuel has 165,000km and the gearbox bearings are worn producing a loud whirling sound in 4/5th gear. I have been advised to replace with a second hand one but cant find one anywhere - probably because its not a popular model.
I have opted to get the existing one reconditioned but have been asked for the gearbox code for this particular model - does anyone know this or where it is located on the car?

Main dealer could tell you from the chassis number.

Might be better bringing to a gearbox specialist as the one you get from a scrapper mightn't be much better

Strange for it to whine in the high gears tbh, was it a mechanic diagnosed it?

Yes, from a main dealer following a service - diagnosis was 'Diff bearings worn'. The noise had been there for a while. Its realy noticable while coasting or at low speed in a high gear.

Surely a main dealer could find the code for himself?
