like everyone here, we are all looking to improve our health.

    my aim is no different.

I have 5 areas to work on:

    Breakfast
    Lunch
    Dinner
    Snacking
    Exercise.

    So im starting with Breakfast.

right now, Im, tea and 2 slices of toast at 7am, then at 9.20 a bowl of branflakes with maybe two slices of brown bread, or a crosant . .. my number id think its 4. the bread bloats me.

What do you have in the morning, and if you were to rated out of 10 for healthiness, what would it be.

Porridge made with 3/1 water/milk sweetened with honey
    2 slices ryvita with hummous
Boiled egg OR small tin tuna
    Coffee
Apple within an hour or so of that

Breakfast Mon-Fri I'd have two Weetabix and a banana. If I run out of Weetabix, I have 4 or 5 boiled eggs and half a sliced pan worth of toast. So that's healthy enough I suppose. On the weekends, I have a fry-up Sat and Sun. So the weekend brekkie isn't healthy but it sure is tasty!! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,591 ✭✭✭ambid

I have porridge and nuts or poached eggs with one slice of bread. I'm trying to eat chicken and nuts but it's tough as a breakfast.

For healthiness, I think it's pretty good. My dietician and trainer are happy with it anyway.

Before I leave the house (6.20am) coffee and a shake with 250ml full fat milk, banana, walnuts and a scoop vanilla whey, then in work at 10.30 I'll have 3 eggs scrambled sometimes with cheese, or if I'm not too lazy the night before I'll make an omelette to bring to work, usually a combination of chorizo, spinach, tomato, cheese, onion...

I think it's pretty healthy and seems to be doing the job for me.

I had scrambled eggs (3) with real butter, black pepper and salt

    I'd rate it 10/10

Scrambled Eggs - 5 egg whites 1 egg yoke
    Toast - brown wholemeal bread
Porridge - made with only water
    Banana

Not sure what I would rate that.

    today I had
    • 1 chicken breast, baked (about 100g)
    • 5 pecan nuts halves, 5 brazil nuts
    • 60g jumbo oats porridge boiled with water + 10g 85% chocolate, 10g butter, 30g milled seeds
    • kiwi
    • green tea

I would rate it 9... it would be 10 if I dropped oats and added more nuts and some salad.

I'm a coffee for breakfast (around 8am) kind of gal, but then I have a banana at about 10am and a pile of fruit (usually a kiwi, orange, pear and plum) between 10am and 1pm (hurray for free fruit at work). So, my breakfast is staged during the day.

It works for me, but I don't know how healthy it is. :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 936 ✭✭✭leggit

monday to friday - protein shake (sometimes porridge too, depending on what time I got up at) (8/10)

saturday - poached eggs on brown bread (7/10)

    sunday - fry up! (0/10)

While your breakfast is all natural foods with no process rubbish, it is basically all simple carbs (sugar from fruits) with nothing in the way of protein or healthy fats listed up until lunch time

IMHO you could definately look to balance out your Macro nutrients.

Try throwing some cottage cheese into a blender with some fruit/berries and blending together. Add in some healthy fats and protein and it is like yogurt to eat. Also can made the night before. Or add in some gelatine to set. I make these every 2 weeks and they will easily keep for 10 days in the fridge.

Thanks TommyKnocker! This is something that I know I should be looking at, but I find that I feel very sluggish if I try to introduce a more balanced breakfast. I'm never low on energy with what I'm eating at the moment. I always ensure that I eat a good lunch with lots of carbs, but not that much fat (I'm not avoiding fat, but it's just the way I eat). I would usually have steak or fish for dinner (although I'm a bitch for eating pasta and veg covered in garlic instead maybe twice a week).

Either two slices of toast and half tin of beans and a cup of tea, Or just a bowl of cornflakes with full fat milk.

I'd rate that at about 2/10 but tbh I love eating and porridge with water doesn't sound very appealing to me.

    Breakfast 1 before gym
    Porridge and eggs

    Breakfast 2 after gym
    Beef/Chicken/Lamb and rice/sweet potato

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 192 ✭✭Glitter

    Monday - Friday
A large banana at about 9.30am. (Then lunch with lots of protein at 12.30).
I know I should try to eat more at brekkie but food that early in the morning makes me want to yakk. :o
I'm guessing this rates as about 4 out of 10.

    Saturday - Sunday
2 whole eggs scrambled with a slice of smoked salmon, a couple of mushrooms, a small portion of grated smoked cheese (c. 20g), and some chives. And one slice of McCambridges wholegrain toast with butter.
I give this 8 out of 10, if I could cut out the toast I would give it 10. :D

4 eggs scrambled, sometimes with salmon, and natural yoghurt mixed with sliced banana and mixed frozen berries. I'd give that 9/10.

Its mad how bland bran flakes are, considering they are 22% sugar.

I think many do not realise they have such ridiculous amounts of sugar and go by the old, often wrong maxim, "if it tastes bad/bland it must be good for me" "if it tastes good it must be bad."

but that's only 7g of sugar per serving, right? ;)
anybody actually eats 30g of flakes per serving?

Breakfast today (and every day) is

6 Eggs - 3 full eggs and 3 egg whites (take the yoke out of the shell)
like 200ml of milk to make scrambled eggs.

    Bowl of porridge

    Pint of Milk

    Apple

    Rinse and repeat.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,931 ✭✭✭Ilyana

Wow, I don't know how people can eat so much so early
I used to eat breakfast everyday without fail, but lately I rarely do. Since I've started watching what I eat, I can't eat for a few hours after I wake up. The thoughts of a huge fry (even if it's a healthy-ish one) just after waking up turns my stomach.

It's a terrible habit, I know. If I don't go straight to lunch, the most I'll eat is 2 boiled eggs or just a coffee. Sometimes I have a bit of fruit.

    0/10 :o

    Coffee (usually).
Then orange juice, or random cereal, or toast with honey, or croissant with jam, or banana.
All a bit random in my case, never planned.

I always, always, just have porridge made with milk and about 30 mins later I'll have green tea
I'd rate it 8/10 just because I'm not getting a protein fix but I get enough of that during the day. I'm in the best shape of my life and improving all the time. I just had a legs day in the gym and loved it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 921 ✭✭✭MiNdGaM3

60g of porridge, 300ml milk, half a scoop of whey, 30g of sesame seeds, teaspoon of hemp oil, hand full of blueberries or grapes.

    Carbs 80g Protein 41g Fat 35g ~835kcal

Pretty good methinks, 9/10? Of course, I don't have this every morning though, protein shake and a toasted sandwich when in a rush! The occasional fry too...

tight for time in the mornings lately so night before i throw frozen berries, banana, tablespoon peanutbutter, a strawberry yoghurt, 2 cups of oats into a pint glass, top up with full fat milk and drop handheld blender into it.
    lovely stuff!

id give it a ten out of ten i guess, mite start throwin a scoop of whey into it too, to make it 11/10

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,863 ✭✭✭RobAMerc

2 spoons Oat Bran, 1 Wheat Bran, 1 Flax seed, some skim milk, a scoop of whey then nuke. I also take my Omega 3 fish oils after it.
Dunno how healthy it is, I presume its fairly good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,789 ✭✭✭✭keane2097

Two poached eggs, two grilled rashers.

    Gotta be close to ten?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 910 ✭✭✭PauloConn

Protein shake after morning workout then 40g flahavans, 30g flax meal, 300ml skimmed milk about a half hour later. For later breakfast, its 3 pieces of fruit and if still peckish before lunch its a few carrot sticks, peppers or other raw veg i had in the house.
Reckon its a very modest 8

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 danceash

bowl of porridge made with water.
    spoon of honey.
    100ml semi-skimmed milk.
    1 medium banana.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭The Guvnor

    Depending on schedule it's either:

Native Whey Shake - half milk / half water.

    If proper brekkie it's Porridge.

150g porridge with water - 1:4 ratio porridge to water.

This feeds two in a 60/40 split.

    Added to this is:

    1. Banana
    2. Blueberries
    3. Blackberries
    4. Strawberries
    5. Raspberries (if they look ok)
    6. Grapes (red and green)
    7. Kiwi
    8. Mandarin
    9. Prebiotic/Probiotic/Digestive Enzyme mix - in porridge on hob.
    10. Manuka Honey - in porridge on hob.
    11. Raisins
    12. Sugar (Brown)
Also have an sugar free actimel every morning and some effervescent vits and some juice.

I prefer the porridge but it take a good 40 minutes from start to bowl being eaten!

    Porridge defo on weekends.

    Out of 10 - 11! It's that good!:D

I had porridge this morning, with some low-fat milk and sweetener. I've been less tempted to reach for the chocolate, so it must be working!
