Digital Channels dissappeared

    Hey everybody,

I bought a Samsung UE32D5000 a couple of days back and the problem is that I can tune in the digital channels RTE 2 HD, 3E etc.. but then they just lose signal and I can't tune them in again. I have a tv signal booster and a coaxial splitter that has a power supply going into it. The digital channels stayed on for around a day and the signal strength was at a steady 73 and the bit error level was at 0. Then suddenly the signal strength goes to 0 and bit error level is maxed out at 2000. Also there is 3 other tellies in the house working off the aerial if that makes a difference but this is the only HD telly that has the option to tune in digital channels. Any ideas?

Should be in the terrestrial forum. What part of the country are you in?

Sorry about that, I'm based in Sligo. My friend up the road has the near enough the exact same setup and he's getting all the digital channels. Reset the tv and the same thing again. I've been in the attic and all the wiring seems fine.

Does anyone know anything about this.

Explain better what this is or post a photo. You're probably over-amplifying the signal.

Here's what the two things look like. All the information is in the first post that I can think of.

That power inserter I would think is for MMDS (mesh dish type aerial). This would be used for delivery of UK channels at least, don't know about Irish.

How many aerials do you have & do you know what type they are? Bit dark for taking pics of external aerials now.

Well it's a semi detached house, and there seems to be two aerials on the chimney. It's hard to tell though because it's dark outside. And we have a sky dish on the side of the house. It looks like a mesh dish type aerial. I will post pics of it tomorrow.

Okay well I got them tuned but now the signal strength and bit error level is hopping.

If you took this to the Terrestrial threads you would get a lot more answers.

Checking the saorview site Sligo appears to be a problem area for digital reception, check the below link.

Could someone possibly move this to the terrestrial section.

That's what you said in your 1st post. Some pics of your aerial would be useful.

I know I said that, but I was just saying that I got them tuned in again and the same thing was happening. Will try and post pics later.

Ok here's the pics. Taken on my phone so not the best quality.

The square mesh aerial is for MMDS ('wireless cable'). The other one is band III VHF for RTE analogue.

Saorview is in the UHF band & there's no UHF aerial in those pics.

Are both these aerials part of 1 setup or for separate dwellings? There's what could be a combiner below the VHF aerial but there was probably a UHF aerial on top of the mast at some point.

You're probably just picking up the Saorview signal on your cables.

Yeah there for separate houses. And what the UHF aerial got blown off or something? What do I have to do to fix it?

Do you still use the MMDS? What analogue channels have you got?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 gerryb10

    Yes I still use it, I have got RTE 1 & 2, TV3 and TG4 on analogue.

What frequencies or channel nos. do these analogue channels appear at on your tv (the Truskmore ones I suspect)?

Sorry about not posting back but it seems to be working now and all I did was jimmy with the cable a bit and now all the channels are working. Still a bit dodgy so I might get a new cable but that seems to be problem solved.

Get a wideband or group cd uhf aerial up on that roof pointed to maghera and cable that separately down to the tv.
I assume, the mmds box is scarted in.
    Problems solved then.
Your signal couldn't be anything other than extremely marginal with the stuff you have up there now.

You are essentially getting signal from the cable.
    Replacing the cable won't help.
You need it hooked into something designed to receive uhf signals :)

He's in Sligo, so Truskmore I'd imagine & I doubt he's getting anything from the MMDS setup.

OP, you must be in a strong signal area or you wouldn't have any tv.

Cheers guys for the responses. It's been steady ever since I posted so I must be in a strong signal area.

    It's unlikely to be reliable.
