Anybody any suggestions on a good (free) program that will remove duplicate/missing songs from iTunes? I got and paid for Rinse but it never worked, so they refunded me yesterday after a period of testing on their part.

Are you looking for an automatic cleaner?
There is an inbuilt duplicate finder in case you didnt know.

i have tried several programs on my PC at home, will try to dig out the names,as far as i remember there is no one stop great program, had to use a few diferent programs due to ability differences in terms of successfully finding duplicates.

    Rgds

Yeah, the manual way in iTunes is awkward when you have a lot of duplicates. 3k+

TuneUp for iTunes and Windows media Player seems to fit the bill - cleaning, de-duping, fixing artwork, etc. It's free on Mac but I've had a couple of crashes (nothing fouled up in my Library) which the developers are investigating after I sent off the crash-logs.

It's actually pretty easy, without any additional software:
    Manual Solution:
    1. Use iTunes built-in “Find Duplicates” feature to find and remove the duplicate tracks in iTunes – this doesn’t affect your drive yet).
    2. Highlight every track in your iTunes Library (still in iTunes, not on your drive) and then drag the tracks from iTunes to a new Folder on your drive.
    3. This will make a complete copy of your Library (without any duplicates)
    4. Delete every track in iTunes and every file in your original Library on your drive.
    5. Then, either move the contents of your new Folder to your Library folder and drop the Library Folder back into iTunes, or just tell iTunes that your Library has moved to the new Folder.
