Borrowed slightly from a similar thread I read on a different forum, just for a bit or fun, and to illustrate just how bloody fast the guys at the top are, if you simply averaged out Patrick Makau's WR run to an even pace, how long could you stick with him for?

The following are his average times for some common shorter distances:

    200m: 35.16
    400m: 70:32
    800m: 2:20.64
    1000m: 2:55.80
    1500m: 4:23.70
    Mile: 4:42.92

Reminds me of the 'Can you keep up with Ryan Hall for 60ft' video.

    You must have seen this?

    Just one lap for me...

I'll have to abuse my mod powers and move Krusty's post below mine...

My pb's seem to suggest I could keep up for two laps. If the medics would then have removed me from the line before he came round again is another matter.

Based on my 400m and 800m PB's I'd probably start dropping back at around the 650m mark. At an enormous push perhaps 700m, but probably not.

I could handle the first 2 laps, McMillan says I could stick with him for the 1K, he would probably drop me coming into the home straight on the 3rd lap and by the mile marker he'd have a good 100m lead and I'd be toast.

Awesome to go on and do 25 more then, with a few surges thrown in, maybe down to a 4:30 mile. I wonder what's the fastest mile ever run in a major marathon, maybe on a downhill, downwind stretch in Boston or the last mile of a championship race? 4:20 maybe?

I'd manage 800 metres. I'm so proud. It's a staggeringly fast speed to run a marathon.

With a bit more training I could keep up with him, but I could'nt be bothered:rolleyes:

About 400m. Maybe 600. Possibly 800 if I cut across the infield. Unreal.

About 100 metres on a good day :(

About 1500m...then I'd be toast and would be in need of oxygen!! Just shows how ridiculously fast these guys are.

To answer the original question... about 600 mts on a good day. Just. Maybe.

In me peak, maybe one km.

Just looking at his finish line video and my god that was a mess up. How many seconds did he lose their because the wanted him to finish on one side of the road and not the other. If he had clipped the advertising hoarding and fell on his ass. Look at the finish line left close up camera. Like he beat the previous WR by 20 secs but this could have been the difference between breaking it and not. H didn't look too happy about it.
