Ridiculous! 1.639 is what I saw today!

We have to do something about this!

    <snip>

Let's get everyone involved and maybe they'll listen to us...

    Two possibilities:
    - Government reduces taxes on petrol and diesel
    - Oil goes down to $90 levels

Why don't people understand that regardless whose fault the economys problems are we will all still have to pay and high tax on fuel is one way to do that. If its not high fuel tax it will be high motor tax.

    Fuel tax is fairer

And if you can't afford to tax and fuel your car sell it and but a nice Raleigh

    I'm right behind you OP . . . .

Is this going to be a naked protest? 'Cause that's the only kind of protest I can get behind.

So you're fine with paying the government 30-60 quid a week just because they're "kind enough" to let you use something called an engine which you pay a tax for anyway?

At least he has the choice not to use that thing.

    Yes

I pay for the privilege. It's not a right and people thinking otherwise are deluded

Yes. They wonder how we gave so many unearned entitlements and tax breaks to people who didnt deserve them which created a building boom and ultimately lead to a crash.

It currently means our social welfare bill is too high and unsustainable also

14 out of every 20 euro you spend on fuel goes to the government.

This simply isn't fair or sustainable.
As a result, fuel sales are down 6-7%.

I suggest picking one fuel retailer e.g. Topaz or Texaco etc and boycotting them. Buy your fuel elsewhere. When the particular retailer is doing no business, they will cry to the government. The government will listen to the captains of industry but won't listen to the ordinary worker.

Another idea is to Pay Under Protest (this can be used for any tax or austerity measure you don't agree with).
You pay for your fuel using a large amount of small change. If everyone does this then it will create havoc.
There is a law that no one has to accept more 50 coins in one transaction so I recommend using 49 or 50 coins and the rest in notes.

False. People took loans out of the banks to pay for their wants, government earned on it from taxes and decided to bail out these banks.

Then the ordinary Topaz worker looses their job! Seems fair!!

You want us to campaign to get a law passed to limit petrol prices in the United States?

OHMYGAWD Even conspiracy theorists know that the government didn't actually bail out the banks, they bailed out the investors.... Duh. Even squares like me know that democracy is dead, but I still need to feed my family. Funny, huh?

    That's a very good suggestion.

There could also be protests by simply congesting petrol stations - buy 2 litres of fuel and then spend as much time in the shop as possible. 200 people, 10 petrol stations and you know something's going on.
