Non working fridge/freezer

A few weeks ago, I noticed at the back of my fridge (not the freezer part) some snow.I decided to thaw out the fridge to get rid of this.I did this, and cleaned out the rest of the fridge and switched it back on.I didnt change the thermostat setting up to high.

The freezer compartment was working ok, put I noticed the butter and milk were not quite what they should have been, i.e butter still a bit runny and milk not quite cool.Turned up the thermostat some more and left it.The freezer was still ok but even though the milk best before dates of the cartons I had in the fridge were nearly up, both were sour.

I bought some more milk and............. you've guessed it those went sour after a while but the dates were still ok.I put in a thermometer to check the temp, and it was about 10c.The freezer was at about minus 20c.But then yesterday, the freezer has completely thawed out.

Now the compressor is still running, and shutting off,but both compartments are not cooling/freezing at all.I felt at he pipes going to the compressor, and non of the pipes or the condenser at the back are hot when its running. Is the compressor fecked or is there a simpler fault?

I apologize for the long winded post, but I wanted to give the whole story.

If the condenser pipes are cold and the compressor is running it sounds like it may have leaked its coolant.

Perhaps when you cleaned it, one of the pipes fractured, I moved a freezer a few years ago and that was enough to fracture a pipe somewhere and after a few days it stopped cooling, had to get a replacement!

Well I am not so sure, there are no exposed pipes in the interior of the fridge or freezer.I didnt move the whole unit either.Probably just a coincidence. If I had known it was going to do this, I would have not thawed it out at all:p.

I dont suppose there is a switch or sensor on the compressor that could be at fault..................................................................................................

    Probably not:(.
