Is there any studies on use of online based (using video software like skype) indiviual/group therapy ? Seems like a potentially good method of connecting people/therapists from many different locations etc.
What (non technology)problems could arise from using such a method?

I linked to this in the Find A Therapist sticky.

Google Scholar is a good resource. Can you see this or this? There's even Journals on Cyberpsychology.

The main disadvantage I would see if what happens if a client discloses suicidal intent?

That would all have to be contracted for in the beginning.

The BACP has best practice guidelines for online counselling, which I presume would be very similar for Skype.

Could be good for regular group therapy with non acutely ill people where people cant make it to a major city/town for such psychotherapy.

The Australians are usually good at distance everything.
