Basel: Sommer, Steinhöfer, Abraham, Dragovic, Park, Shaqiri, Huggel, Xhaka, F.Frei, A.Frei, Streller

Bayern: Neuer, Rafinha, Boateng, Badstuber, Lahm, Tymoshchuk, Alaba, Robben, Kroos, Ribery, Gomez

Should be a decent game to watch, both sides like to go forward.

Good to see Alaba play, he looks very good.

Funny to see Shaqiri play against the team he'll join in the summer too

    You mean against?

Looking forward to it. Sneakily thinking Bayern might win the comp.

Enjoyable game so far! End to end stuff, should be goals from both sides.

Great first 20 minutes, don't know Bayern got away with the two chances there!

Looks like David Luiz been training the Bayern defenders.

The Borussia Dortmund manager has a Play Station controller with him in the stands. :D

Marseille v Inter is on Setanta if anyone is interested, not as many goals as this game though.

Ribery could have had 2 for Bayern in fairness.

Very entertaining game so, fair play to Basel, really look up for it.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    Television official gave that decision.

And ITV, but it's been cat, Marseilles have had flip all chances and as for Inter, they couldn't score in a brothel, they had chances galore but just couldn't finish...

It's over to RTE for the Bayern second half me thinks (I'll go back to the other in a few mins and it prob be 3-3 :D)

I think Ronnie Whelan just said "he should have put it in quickler"

Sneijder is having a stinker for Inter. Shocking a player of his ability has seemingly lost the ability to control a football. Either that, or he can't be arsed.

Unreal! Well deserved, looking the better team tbh.

I'd nearly put money on these guys to cause a shocker in the Champions League..

Was mainly watching Marseilles v Inter, but saw the goal, thought Bayern might struggle in what became a quagmire!

Delighted for Basel. Dunphy is right when he says that they have heart.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,883 ✭✭✭smokedeels

Enjoyed that. Well done Basel, that keeper of theirs continues to impress.

I'm turning RTE off before Dunphy goes on another ill informed "football in decline" rant.

Basel showed there draw/win over united wasn't a complete fluke but in fairness since they were so unknown it would be easy to underestimate them. Good side

I will guess it for ya:

"Where are the great Bayern munich players these days? Where are the great Inter Milan players these days - nowhere Bill, nowhere!" :D

If this thread is any indicator the lack of interest in non British sides in Europe must be costing RTE/TV3 and ITV dear!

Best indicator is that in ITV's Champions League extra-time show, they decided to spend 30 minutes on Chelsea's defeat and then went to show highlights of Man City's Europa League walkover before brief coverage of the rest of the other CL games this week.

Mainly watched The Bayern v Basel game, delighted for Basel. Played out of their skin and could easily have won by more. That keeper will have top clubs knocking his door down in the summer. Some have the bravery side sorted, some have the skill side sorted but few have both covered like he does. Hoping they dont go to Munich with 11 men in the box mentality tho as dont think they will last it.

Bayern in a spot of bother for a while now.
Since the winter break they've been playing with no ideas and no creativity. From cheese to chalk compared to the beginning of the season when they looked invincible at times.
Yesterday was terrible. Kroos was nonexistent. Robben and Ribery looked like one trick ponies and at the back they looked vulnerable. Neuer was their best player yesterday.
Delighted for Basel they showed a lot of heart and deserved this big time.
If this form continues Bayern may well get knocked out by them.

I still fancy Bayern to do them. 1-0 is by no means out of the game. Last nights game Bayern did look a little lost for ideas but had some good chances. What they aren't doing is getting Gomez into good scoring positions. Last night he was starved of good service all be it he was marked out of the game quite a bit too.

Well done Basel though another great performance. I do feel however they are living on a knife edge. Good going forward and some of their play around the box is very good. They have a great keeper but the back is rather open. I use the term knife edge as I think they rely on Sommer to get them out of a lot of trouble but against an in form Bayern or another team in following rounds they will get opened up a lot more I think and he will be beaten a couple of times. Remind me of Shalke 04 last season in a way.

Btw, who else thought Olic made the most theatrical hilarious dive of all time until they saw the replay and realised he got kneed on the nose?
