Horrible Teeth

Hi, I have really bad teeth, a few of them have holes, broken and all out of shape. I have a fear of dentists but I know I have to get them fixed but the problem is I don't have much money.
I have a medical card but that doesn't cover much I don't believe. Does anyone know how much fixing them would cost?
It's mainly the top row that's the problem, I have seen a show on tv before where the person got all they're teeth replaced with fakes but they were permanently fixed using some screw thing, anyone know what's that called? That would be very expensive I'd say.
My worst teeth are the ones 5,6 and 7 from the middle left and right, would it cost much to get just these removed?
I know I'm rambling a bit but I hope someone can make sense of that and give me some cost idea. Thanks.

I'm getting a single tooth implant (the screw thing), it's costing just shy of €3,000 for that one alone.

could you get crowns on the broken teeth?

Only a dentist can tell you what needs to be done, and give you a costing for the work.
Dentists are well aware of peoples finances, most will work out a payment plan.

 3,000????? Well that rules that out.
I probobly could get crowns, to be honest I'm not sure exactly what I'd need but how much would crowns cost?
Are you on the medical card? It wouldn't cover those tooth implants anyway I suppose.

Yes, I understand that but I have a fear of dentists and would like to have information on what I might need and the cost before I go anywhere near them.
If it's anything like the cost of the tooth implants cloneslad mentioned above well I might have to put up with the crap teeth or look into the controversial dental tourism I hear about.

Sorry op, but you have given us a pretty vague idea of what the problem is so its impossible to give you a price, kind of like ringing a restaurant and asking the price of a meal but not telling them if you are likely to have the salad or the lobster....
The medical card will cover 2 fillings in the year and all the extractions you need.
Best to get an assessment and go from there....

Ok, point taken. I'll try to do a more detailed report.

Sorry about the size of the image.

On the upper teeth no. 5 ,6 and 7 on both sides of the mouth there are holes on the inside of these teeth. A lot of my teeth are dis-coloured, that's upper and lower teeth, this is due to smoking which I have now quit.
Teeth 1-3 and 14-16 are out of shape.
I don't know if that helps but can someone give the prices for something like crowns mentioned above or getting teeth whitened or anything? Thanks.

Edit: Ok just to summise, can anyone give an estimate on how much it would cost to fix the holes in 3 of my back teeth, get new front teeth and whiten all my teeth?

I think you are missing the point, looking for quotes to "get new front teeth" is like asking someone how much for a house!!! There are more variables than you realize and this can only be assessed clinically by a dentist who is looking in your mouth and has your X-rays....

Yes, I understand that but an estimate for some of the stuff I've mentioned. Are you an actual oral surgeon? You must know some of the prices.
    Whitening teeth? Putting crowns in?

The medical card covers 2 fillings/year& any number of extractions.
All private dental practices display a list of fees (Code of Practice, Dental Council).
You may be covered for a free checkup under the PRSI; submit your PPS number to a dental practice& they can send for approval.
Most dental practices have websites nowadays. Most dental practices would offer some form of a discount if you are having extensive treatment. Either google prices, or ring the practice if they don't have a website. Problem solved. Prices vary from place to place& dentist to dentist.
Check the cost of "scale and polish"(you may require more than one visit however, if you have gum disease), &"fillings"(assuming the 3 teeth with cavities can still be filled)....this will give you some sort of guide.
Tooth whitening can only be done when your mouth is disease-free.
Meantime, less typing, more doing! Good luck.

Op, how much is a car?

Crowns can be 300 or 900, quality and dentist skills and lab work all make the price. You won't get accurate help unless you give us more info.

Ha ha! Yes, I waffle on too much. I did a little google there and the prices seem steep, I'll look into it more. I suppose if I can get two free fillings it would be a start.
800-1,300 is the best I've seen for crowns yet. No wonder people are heading abroad!

Quality costs. I paid 2500 for a crown and complex root canal with an endodontist 4 years ago. Tooth has been trouble free since.

Too much is right! If there's been a backlog of a few years, there's a backlog of treatment to be done. Ideally, with good diet, optimal oral hygiene(daily flossing!), regular dental checkups, no treatment should be required.
However, phobic patients- and admittedly I am one myself, but force myself to attend!- leave things on the long finger, then need a load of treatment, & this often reinforces the phobia& increases the cost.
I really wouldn't get distracted with crowns, OP. They are the very least of your worries. Get rid of the decay, get the gums sorted, get the diet/oral hygiene back on track, become a regular dental attender, and ONLY THEN, invest in crowns/whitening. Otherwise you'll have decayed/loose crowns in a few years, and then you'll really be talking about cost.

 You not hear there's a recession going on? In these times you should be taking out your pliers. :D

Ok, that's some solid advice. The thing is I do all the oral hygene stuff now but it's too late. Hpe I can find somewhere reasonable.

With the medical card, you get two fillings free of charge- can't beat that pricing?! Book an appointment asap. You can focus on pricing/sourcing for the other teeth after that, meantime save what you can of your teeth while you can.
    Good luck!

Yeah I like the sound of free stuff even if it is a filling! Right I may get over my fear and visit the dentist then. Cheers buddy, hope you're taking your own advice and have a full set of pearly whites!

Definitely go get some filling before your teeth get any worse, if you have three teeth with holes in them, then you can get two of those fixed for nothing, and you it'll prob only cost about €60 for the third.

Go get the work done now, stop waiting and pricing online, just go to a dentist and have a check up.

With regards to my implant, a medical card would not cover an implant. They are expensive, but I only need one. It was because of a football incident, and my other teeth are fine. I attend the dentist quite regularly and have my 6 month check ups. I like the place and I like my dentist, so I don't worry about it.

Yes I am and being an oral surgeon means that I am less likely to know those prices as I don't provide these treatments.....

OP. Time to stop fluffing around. You know you need to see a dentist because you don't have the foggiest whats wrong with your teeth, what is needed to be done to fix them, or the options to fix them. If you problems are great, the cost of private dental treatment will be high, however that is the price of having nice teeth if you have neglected the free set you were given. There is also specification. Fixed implants cost more than dentures, you pay more for comfort, aesthetics and longevity.

In the time it took you to post here you would have gotten a free examination on your medical card. Once you know what you need come back for advice, for the moment you need only a proper examination and treatment plan from a dentist.

Am yes, if you read the whole thread that's what I meant when I said "Right I may get over my fear and visit the dentist then", so I'm going tomorrow. We covered what you said just there.
Oral surgeon you may be less likely to know the prices but you must have a general idea and if not why bother posting on this thread?
I was just looking for estimates but now I've done some googling I can see that generally they are a rip off. No wonder people in the industry don't like mentioning figures.
I found this page interesting: http://www.youandyourmoney.ie/content.asp?contentid=715
